Introduction from western Colorado to Mexico

MiKimS

Hi all ! 👋

I'm not sure if this is the proper place for our introduction, but:

Our names are Kim & Mike (MiKimS).

We currently live in western Colorado and are considering a move to Mexico. We aren't sure where, or when, but I'm looking for an area away from hurricanes and that has the lowest crime rates. My Wife loves the beach. We'd sure welcome suggestions.

I'm not in mexico, but since nobody appears to be responding, I'll ask:

Can you find a craftsman to either build it, or, buy the dirt cheap stuff, and have somebody modify it to suit your needs ?

I restore and fabricate for old furniture and antiques that are broken or missing parts, so I'm familiar with the process ðŸ‘

So retiring in mexico sounds awesome to us!  Cheaper, safer, no snow, awesome locals.  We are from morrison colorado.  Sounds so good that we are closing on a house on august 1st, 2024.  It is right on the beach and is actually 2 houses.  A 3bed/3 bath and a 1/bed 1/bath,  It is set up where it is almost off the grid.  Monthly bills of less than $100 US.  That includes internet!  It was only $450k!  It is in a town called celestun.  A sleepy fishing town that has everything for you.  Population around 9000.  Famous for their pink flamingos. There is a bigger town, 45 minutes away, called merida.  Has everything.  Sams club, costco, walmart, home depot, mcdonalds, etc..  Merida is known to be the safest place in mexico.  Our realtor has been really awesome.  Gary at [link moderated].  He will help you with EVERYTHING to make your move to mexico smooth as possible.  He has lived in celestun for 20 years.  I recommend contacting him and talking about buying or even renting (he has 50 rental units).  Buying would of course be the best option, as this area will explode soon.  You could also rent, check it out, and see if you even wanted to live there full time.  We think it is awesome.  Way cheaper than the US, food, drinks, rent, etc.  Also the banks are awesome.  Currently paying 9.3% on your bank account.  It is in the gulf of mexico so there are no hurricanes.  Only 4 hours from cancun where there is a cheap airport.  Then you take the train, 4 hours, and it is only $60.  Good luck!

Colorado is beautiful, and i love it here, however, as we get older, the cold isn't as easy to tolerate.

Celestun sounds nice!

What do you know about the healthcare system quality and cost ?

some of the best healthcare in the world is in merida,  about 45 minutes away.

strongly recommend Baja (we’re from Ft Collins, moved to Cabo 2013-2018,  permanent resident rock between there and Scottsdale).  all of baja treated like international zone, US plates OK (no deposit like mainland), easy drive in and out, generally safer than mainland. oddly considering Grand Junction, grass truly greener. Mexico RE down 35% across the board year to date. Dont be in a rush. Find a place to rent,  negotiate  full year in advance for a discount (tiny commitment compared to buying)

EVERYTHING you expect cheap will be even half but everything you expect expensive will be double.Â
