Living here six months now, got two year residency card. Living inland now, would like to migrate closer to a beach but worried about hurricane seasons. Rent a small apartment, finding it very economical and weather seems to always be pleasant enough. I study Spanish daily but find it more difficult the more I delve in. Find it difficult to meet new people, though everybody I have met has been very kind. I am learning the bus routes in a moderately sized city, and find it very challenging as the internet is useless, nothing is posted anywhere. I have to just show up and wait. The bus drivers often lie or don't care once I have boarded and then they go the opposite way and cannot be helpful. One mocked my Spanish when I asked him about a stop (in Spanish) and laughed at me, I found it very rude. Wish I had some local input on some of the Puebla buses. I live in San Andres de Cholula. I would move to Vera Cruz but they had no good restaurants in the area I went to. There is definitely nothing of the vegetarian variety there, that I could find, nor any grocery stores with fresh vegetables. Of course my time there was limited and I was on foot, so I hope to explore more and find some outdoor markets. But all in all, people are so kind, even when I fell down on the big metro bus some women laughed at me but then they offered me their seat! And also, when the driver mocked me on the AU bus, a woman told me what stop it was. I don't want to seem bitter, as I do love this country and I hope to be here for a long long time. I just find it difficult sometimes trying to navigate language and culture alone. I have many good, joyful days.

Hello, glad to be here! We are just starting our plans to move to Mexico, so any and all advice for middle-income, not quite "retirement" age (if anyone can really retire anymore) people. We don't need a huge house, a small one will do, or a nice condo. We are seeking a quiet, friendly place鈥攕omewhere close to a city, but without the rush of a large place. We are outdoorsy people and would prefer to walk to the stores or restaurants, limiting our car usage. Let me know if you have questions or want to connect! :-)

Hi! Making plans to move to Mexico. I took Spanish many years ago but haven鈥檛 used it so looking for a an ex-pat area where English is common. I鈥檓 a teaching tennis pro, and would be interested in doing that, as well as a job in marketing/communications and/or events. We鈥檙e about 10 years from retirement, my wife is a nurse, and my three adult children are also looking to move with us.

Then you should be planning to go the same place I am going San Miguel Allende. It is safe. There is a large Expat community. Canc煤n is also an expat area where lots of people speak English but I do not like to live close to the ocean due to hurricanes.

Want to spent part of my retirement in SMDA.聽 Been there many times, but now I want to live there at least 6 most of the year.聽 Maybe eventually full time.聽 In doing research I find that accommodations can be had at a more economical level if working with locals.聽 Anyone have any leads as to where I can find a nice one bedroom to rent in SMDA?聽

I am new to this forum. I have lived in San Miguel de Allende for 8 years and I love it for a lot of reasons. I feel I have been living a "pinch-me" existence since moving here. So much to offer on so many levels.

I鈥檓 Carlos G贸mez af Trolle, born and raised in Mexico but with strong North American roots through both family and life experience.

My mother was American, from New York, and my grandmother was Canadian, from Montreal. My parents met in Mexico City in 1963 during a Sunday Catholic mass. At the time, my mom was living with my great-grandmother 鈥� a Scottish expat who had been in Mexico since the 1950s. My mom studied high school in the U.S., so English was always a natural part of our lives.

I later moved to the U.S. with my young son. We lived in Los Angeles, where I worked for 3 years as a restaurant consultant, and then in Anaheim and San Diego. I spent several years working with Real Mex Restaurants (El Torito), and later joined Peohe鈥檚 Coronado with the Chart House group, where I worked as a regional trainer and AGM for 5 years.

My son was born in Guadalajara, but grew up in California. He now lives in San Diego with his wife (who鈥檚 from Wales), and they have a child together 鈥� my first grandson!

In 2010, I moved back to Mexico, settled in Chapala, and now work as a real estate advisor with Grupo Gu铆a. I help people from the U.S., Canada, and beyond find their ideal home or retirement property in Lake Chapala, Tapalpa, and the Guadalajara area.

Hi there! Me llamo JJ, and my husband and I are planning to move to Mexico at the beginning of October. We are going to land in San Miguel de Allende, and then will explore the cities of Guanajuato, Queretaro, and Mexico City to find the right vibe if SMA isn't for us.

We're currently in central Oregon with our two cats, and two of the four of us are very excited for the change! The other two will be happy wherever we land and establish a routine, lol.

You can't avoid great, fresh, well prepared food in Mexico! Nor the most genuinely friendly, welcoming people.

We recently moved to Saltillo Coahuila from Houston, TX, and even though we have suffered unimaginable crisis here and from home we're overcoming and still thriving here. I have never been happier in my life.

I don't have Instagram but I聽 can look you up on the other site you mentioned . Are you a drummer ? I need to use fiverr to flesh out a few songs, most likely. I came to Mexico when I retired early. First Puerto Vallarta, but it became too crowded and noisy, plus the heat....SMA is a better fit for us. Again, thanks for the response.

I have been in a relationship with the love of my life for 34 years. We are both natives of Quebec (Canada). As the years go by, we increasingly want to leave our native country for several reasons... climate, politics, and social issues.

We can no longer stand the cold, endless winters and miserable summers. As for the social aspect, we are sick of living among a self-centered people who care only about appearances, who no longer respect much of anything, and who seek only their own personal pleasure. A society of 鈥渇alse鈥� values.

We haven't traveled much in our lives, mainly to the US and once to Mexico a long time ago. That's why this move is such a big deal for us, but we have to do it for our mental and physical health!

My many vacations in Maine every summer when I was younger made me realize that I have a strong connection to the sea, and unfortunately, I have spent my life far away from it.

For this reason, I would like to spend my next few years close enough to the ocean to be able to walk or bike to the beach every day.

The problem with this wish is that we don't want to live in a very touristy and expensive place. We would like to live in a quiet place where there are mostly locals and no large expat communities.

If possible, our project would begin within two to four years, spending six months there during the winter and probably ending up applying for temporary residency. For now, we will explore a few places on vacation for a couple of weeks each year.
