Looking for apartment rentals in Mexico - Best Approach?

GuestPoster108899

From all the research I have done, it seems most people agree that finding a long term apartment in Mexico is best accomplished by getting an AIR B and B for a short time and looking for rental signs in the area you want to live. A lot of people say to avoid the online listings as they will have higher prices. Is this correct? Is there any other advice on finding rentals in Mexico?

What are some good places to live that are cooler, quiet and less busy? I would be interested in some feedback. Thank you.

Hi!

May I ask first which part of Mexico you’re considering living in? That will make it easier to give you more specific recommendations.

In the meantime, a good starting point is to check Facebook Marketplace and Craigslist for listings in your preferred area and budget. That way you’ll get an idea of the going rates in that location. At the same time, I recommend renting an Airbnb for a short stay while you look around — many landlords are open to negotiation, especially for long-term rentals.

A very important tip: never send money or make a deposit before visiting the property in person — or at least through a virtual showing, but only with a licensed real estate agent with verifiable experience.

Also, just so you know, in Mexico the landlord usually pays the real estate agent’s commission, except in very specific high-demand areas with waiting lists.

@GuestPoster108899, check out Saltillo, Coahuila in northern Mexico. I've been here since July and the weather has been beautiful every single day. The summer was hot but not nearly as hot as Houston, and dry. Because of the mountains there was always a cooling breeze.

There are real seasons here, too. Now it's been cool and dry. People who have lived here for a long time say it sometimes gets to freezing in the winter, but not usually.

This is a beautiful city, about one million people, the most welcoming and helpful people in the world.

There maybe facebook pages about the town you are looking to move to. Sometimes there are pages about places for rent. Also there is facebook market place. I do think going to the town and renting an airbnb is a good approach.
