馃槂 will do that then. Many thanks for this Ozzy 馃槉

Having scoured,聽 the many discussions on this subject,聽 I picked up that Romania isn't the most pleasant or easiest (idk which ) of routes. So was sort of hoping to go via Serbia.

As I read somewhere else on here , I can't remember where that that person didn't encounter any problems,聽 but I guess they may just have been lucky馃

Hi the main roads in Romania have improved no end since I last did it but as long as you keep you wits about you you鈥檒l be fine, I must say though this section of the journey we nicknamed death can alley as there were so many crashes and near misses. Expect crazy lorry drivers overtaking on blind bends and in once instance when i had been following a tanker for miles in the wet a dual carriageway section on a long bend came up and I indicated and moved out to overtake, but oh no like a moment from the film Duel the tanker banged on his brakes and slid the back end of his trailer out into the other lane and literally slid around the bend not allowing me or anyone else to overtake, I鈥檒l never forget it! So I rate it a 3 but is a necessary route if you want to drive avoiding Serbia.

Hope that helps, make sure you keep your lights on and have the usual stuff with you鈥v vests, fire extinguisher and in date, spare bulbs, a warning triangle and a alcohol testing kit with you! Safe travels Rgds Ozzy.

BTW "death can ally" does not sound like any sort of fun. But then to be fair I won't be driving much on the route in and out. It'll聽 be my husband.聽

Who is聽 generally a very skilled drive so not easily fazed 馃檹.

I mean I'm a confident driver as well, & have driven the hire cars that we've had whilst within Bulgaria.

Ive generally found the roads to be good and not as busy as聽 some of the UK motorways.

There been some routes we've driven such as Sofia to Ruse seemed hardly anyone聽 was home 馃槂

But coming from UK where most routes are crowed . It can often be pleasant coupled with the scenery , very nice 馃憤

Would this be on the E81 by any chance Ozzy?

I have driven for many years all over the world (including war zones) in many different vehicles on some crazy roads, but when I was travelling down the E81 for the first time with a trucker behind me, I was a bit flustered and although nothing happened to us, it was an eye-opener on how they drive... well more like banger racing..

Just remember to take your time and ignore the drivers behind you (but keep an eye on their crazy antics), if they go to over take just slow down a bit to let them past, they will move along very quickly, and the last thing you want is them trying to overtake on blind bends in the hills! 馃槷

I have been a few times and driven Serbia and Romania, Although Serbia is very easy to drive it's a nightmare at boarders without pets (9 ish hr wait for me), Romania takes more attention but the boarder was almost no existent, before they joined Schengen zone, I was through in a couple of mins.

I will be doing the drive again in September and will definitely be going Romania.

Just plan your stops and take your time, enjoy the views, they are amazing once you get into Romania.

Yes the roads over there are very empty compared to the UK, I remember getting scared after not seeing another road user for about 2 hours.

I find it relaxing driving in BG even in VT its nothing compared to UK.

Hi no not the E81 but the E68 Arrad, Deva,Sibiu etc鈥 I think this is the Transylvanian section but I think better highways may have been built since I last did it. I too have driven here from Blighty with various vehicles first was an LDV post office van that thing did two trips faultlessly, then our landrover discovery with a 17ft trailer and a 2.5 ton digger on the back and my last trip was in an old mgb roadster which was an epic journey! I must say every time I hit the border with Romania I always seem to hit an almighty storm.

Drive safe out there, best regards Ozzy.
