I float around a few of the other Country sections on this site and my impression is that the Bulgaria one is one of the most active, despite the number of foreign immigrants here being rather lower than in many other EU countries. Am I right in my ...

I think there's still something of a jump between "it's possible to get Bulgarian residency relatively easily compared to the UK" to "they hand them out like Smarties"! 😆 Read More

And Bulgaria's still handing out "residents" cards like they're smarties... - @JimJ I wish! That's not my experience at all. 477 days to go till I can apply for my D visa. The "Smarties" are likely to be available only for those with plenty of ... Read More

My wife and I plan to buy a new RAV4 Woodland Hybrid when it is available in Bulgaria. We will pay in full by bank transfer( cash ). I have no experience with any dealer in Bulgaria ( only in the US but I presume there is not much of a difference- ...

I've had the same every time I've purchased a car from a dealer in the UK. None of them would accept a credit card payment, either, probably because of the risk of the buyer doing a chargeback. It's always been bank transfer. Read More

@AshAdu My understanding is that there IS a blood bank, but they don't release blood unless they get a unit back. The blood group of the donor isn't an issue, provided someone donates a unit of blood in your name, you can get a unit of suitable ... Read More

Jean, I'm so sorry you've experienced such challenges, both with your health and with accessing care.I do agree that Brits who return to the UK for the NHS may find they're no better off than they would have been in Europe. Many of us still in the ... Read More

@duggy38 Good advice on both the positive and negative aspects from @JimJ and @gwynj!Especially if looking at lower priced village properties, it's important to know that unrenovated village houses are likely to need a lot of work done, and possibly ... Read More

Snakes in rural Bulgaria by Pumarosa200
Is it true there are poisonous snakes in rural Bulgaria? And if true what are the areas to avoid living in?

That's a good plan for how to deal with a tick bite! Plenty of rakiya! Read More

Ticks are definitely more likely to cause problems than snakes. I remove a few from the neighbours' cat every spring, and our region has a high rate of Lyme Disease. Read More

Question on Visa D by jeanmandredeix
We are currently getting paperwork together for the retirement Visa D but am a bit concerned on my husbands application as I am in receipt of state pension but he only has company pension for now. They seem to want a state pension? Am I right? Will ...

The Embassy in London told me they'd accept a private pension for someone under state pension age, as long as it was at least equal to the Bulgarian minimum wage (not the Bulgarian OAP). That was the issue for us. Hubby has an ill health retirement ... Read More
