How do you sort out bills etc?

jeanmandredeix

I can’t find a thread on paying bills etc.

I am guessing that the estate agent can initially help you get services such as electric/water switched back on and in your name? But how do you get bills and can you pay online or by EasyPay?

Any help

or advice greatly appreciated.

It is very easy. Each service has a client number which must be added in your online banking or easypay. If you cannot do it I can help you over the phone.

I use ePay and have been able to pay all my household bills online with no problems. One oddity I found is that if I use Google Translate to translate the page, the payment won't go through, so if you have online translation set to work automatically, turn it off when it's time to make the payment!

The agent I bought from helped greatly by getting me the account numbers for water, electricity, and council tax. Once you have the numbers and have set up an epay account, you can arrange for epay to notify you automatically when a payment is due.  I did have a problem initially with a water account number that the epay system didn't recognise, that could only be paid at the post office or the VIK (water board) office, but that's now sorted too. With the agent's help, I have a new number that will work in epay.

If your agent isn't helpful with the account numbers and getting things reconnected in your name, it will be worth using a helper to assist you in getting things sorted out initially. I was very blessed, the agent did it all for no extra fee.

I seen this post and will come back when I'm not so busy later because I need help with this too lol. Great question Jean'.

I know everyone says easy pay but how on earth do ya register with council/municipality tax,  get electric and water supply installed external and set up the accounts to pay the bills? Like WHO to call or email is a mystery 🤔

Sean, as you bought with Bg Direct Danislava will be able to help, though there will be a fee if everything has been disconnected. She was a huge help to me, but mine was much easier as everything had been left connected. This is something where having someone who speaks and writes Bulgarian to help makes it all massively easier and it may well be worth paying for assistance.

Do you officially own the property now - as in, the notary transfer of ownership has been done? If so, then you need to take a copy of the notary paperwork to the municipality office and fill in a tax declaration of how much you paid, and they will transfer the responsibility for council tax to you and issue a new number for the council tax. If you haven't done that, the council tax will still go to Danislava, as it will if you're paying by installments, and she'll invoice you. It's important to do that tax declaration at the municipality as soon as possible after finalising the house purchase, as they can charge a late fee.

Your neighbours should be able to tell you who the local electricity and water suppliers are. Often, there will be an online form on the electric or water company websites to apply for reconnection of services. They may need to know what the previous account numbers were before services were disconnected, but Dani should be able to help with those. They will also want a copy of the notary paperwork, and there will be a fee. Once that's done they'll issue new account numbers you can use with epay to pay the bills online, or you can go to their office to pay.

Epay (online) or EasyPay (office) makes paying easier, but unfortunately it's no use at all if you don't have the account numbers for your property!

Thank you. That’s a great help. I haven’t asked Krismerk yet, who I found the property through, as I thought we could organise better when we arrive to set up the company shortly.

I hope it all works out for you! It's an adventure. :)

I pay my electric bill from my bank account. My council tax directly at the municipal office and my water bill at their office but it's always in advance. My neighbour let's me know when they've come to read my water meter.
