Belgium Nationality 2025

gbsc0609

@maharaji1984

Hello,

First, I submitted the documents to the commune on 23/06/2025. Later, they asked me for the latest salary slips, so I got an appointment and submitted them on 04/08/2025. On the same day, I also signed the authorization. Since I had already paid €150 before the fee change, I did not need to pay the new €1000 fee, and they accepted my application with the old amount.

1-Application Region: Evere

2-Application Date: 04/08/2025

3-Requested Documents:

5 years individual accounts

Last months pay slips remaining from 5 years

Payment confirmation from Mijnfin

Birth certificate Apostilled + Translated

Unlimited residence card

After 3 days, I received a letter from the commune mentioning that my file has been sent to the parquet and that the process will take around 4 months.

DaryaSh

Hi All,

wanted to update - got a positive decision 4 months after applying for nationality ( April 26)  . Commune in Brussels said to wait a few weeks until the PIN codes are sent to my address , at which point I can apply for the ID card .

good luck to all waiting !

RKSI

Congratulations @DaryaSh. Have you sent an email to get to know the status on you Nationality application? Or commune sent an email to you?

gbsc0609

@DaryaSh

From which commune?, and How could you know this?

Generally commune sending PIN after apply for card, so what exactly is this?

maharaji1984

@DaryaSh

Congrats.

Normally pin codes are sent after card application. (at least in Antwerpen like this.) But maybe in Brussels comune does this behalve of you.

If this is the case you dont neeed to apply anything because its already done.

When you go to commune i think you will only pay and get your ID

Can you test your current ID if its working in  eID viewer?

Also please could you share your timeline according to first comment in this post.

I was desperatly waiting my L card to apply nationality.

As soon as i get my card i made an appoitment with municipality. To find a closest date slot was almost impossible.

Closest date was 5-6 months. During my daily check i find a close date and made my appoitment. (days were appearing for very short time)

Before i go to municipality i confirmed every documents with nationality department.

And in the appoitment day i gave all requested documents and signed the nationaliteitsverklaring.

Agent gave me nationaliteitsverklaring and 4 months period started.

2 months later i was checking my online files and one day i have seen there my nationality certificate.

I directly made an appoitment with municipality and asked both ID and Passaport.

2 days later  than my nationality certificate installed to the system, i have recieved an invitation letter from municipality  to apply ID card which was obligated and optionally passaport. But anyway, i had already requested:)

One week later i (when pin code in my postbox) i made another appoitment and took  my ID and Passaport.

My application was quite fast. i couldnt imagine it will be that fast...

I was working nonstop in 5 years 8 months .

I never got visited by police or got call.

Good luck all of you guys and be patience. I finally get out of long online waiting queues, application dates,municipaliy corridors.

If you have questions  feel free!

@maharaji1984

Congratulations!!!

I have a small question, when you say "(5 years individual payments and 6 months payslips)", what are the individual payments? And are they always requested for nationality?

For example, if someone has an L Card after 3 years as student (1.5 years for the count) + 3.5 years working, the individual payments are required only for the 3 years?

maharaji1984

@mpssalazar

Thank you , sincerely  what i have been told  ;

you should prove , 468 days from 7,6 hours (= 3557 hour) in last 5 years.

if not

You should have a certificate for minimum 400 hours minimum upper secondary education diploma.

mpssalazar

@maharaji1984

Oh ok, I see, so if I have the 468 hous in 3 years, I guess that would be enough. Thank you!

Smlg

@maharaji1984

your application was sent right away to the Parquet?

yesterday I have received by post the: ONTVANGSTBEWIJS: bevestiging volledigheid dossier artikel 12bis, §1,2° WBN

the 4months period start from reception of this document correct?

maharaji1984

@Smlg

your application was sent right away to the Parquet? Yes thats right.

yesterday I have received by post the: ONTVANGSTBEWIJS: bevestiging volledigheid dossier artikel 12bis, §1,2° WBN

the 4months period start from reception of this document correct? 4 months period start from the date ontvangstbewijs is issued.

The document you mentioned given me in the moment that i made the application.

Smlg

@maharaji1984

the day I applied I received the:

Attest : Aanvraag tot verkrijging van de Belgische nationaliteit

maharaji1984

@Smlg

In your previous post, you said you received it by post. And now you are saying you recieved it once you did the application. Which statement is corecct?

Smlg

@maharaji1984

Hi, I have received two documents:

  1. Attest : Aanvraag tot verkrijging van de Belgische nationaliteit - on site.

→ This is just a receipt of application: it proves you submitted your nationality request at the commune.

  1. ONTVANGSTBEWIJS: bevestiging volledigheid dossier artikel 12bis, $1,2° WBN - by post

→ This is the real key document. It confirms that your file is officially complete and has been forwarded into the legal process (the 4-month period starts from this date)

I had understood that in Brussels some town halls issue the second document immediately if the file is complete from the start. That’s why, when I first applied, I was confused: they told me my file was complete but still refused to give me the certificate right away.

maharaji1984

@Smlg

i recieved both in first application. With post i just recieved that , i must make an appoitment in municipality to get my ID AND /OR passport.

If i am not worng they was not sure about payment right?

Smlg

@maharaji1984

correct! even for the first one I had to force them, and went to collect it later that day. It was very frustrating.

sontoi have received both receipts on site and then by post the positive feedback correct?

maharaji1984

@Smlg

Yes correct

Kitah

@RKSI

congrats!!!!!

your file took 6months to get approved, when was it transferred to the parquet?

Smlg

@praveenkumar0788

congrats, when was your file transferred to the parquet?

Mia0210

Yeah, the waiting times have increased a lot. That’s understandable because of the price verhoogt (rumors about it started in the beginning of the year), many people who could have applied earlier did so at the beginning and middle of the year, so now there are a lot of applications.

What I don’t get is why people just sit and wait so calmly. The deadlines have already passed. After 4 months you should go and demand your case to be processed and your citizenship to be registered. But who am I to tell people what to do if they’re fine with having their rights ignored?

praveenkumar0788

@RKSI

Hello, How did you manage to get appointment for new ID so soon?

The earliest I see in my case is from 27/11/2025.

praveenkumar0788

@praveenkumar0788
congrats, when was your file transferred to the parquet? - @Smlg

I do not know if we could see this info somewhere.

My file was said prepared and sent to prosecutor office on my second and last visit to commune on 10/03/2025.

RKSI

@praveenkumar0788

Hi,

I have taken the appointment for it in 3 months advance. So the reason i got it quickly. Thanks

Smlg

@praveenkumar0788

Got it. I was asking because once the file is sent to the parquet, the prosecutor has 4 months to approve or deny your citizenship. After that deadline, they can no longer issue a decision and the resident automatically becomes Belgian. In your case, it looks like it took 6 months, which is a really long delay.

praveenkumar0788

While my file was being taken on 10/03/2025, the lady in the counter specifically told to please not to contact them before 6 months. And I said ok. I had no plan to wait indefinitely, was waiting for the 6 months to be done.

After 6 months exactly, they emailed themself.

Mia0210

@praveenkumar0788

The lady at the counter can tell you anything, even that she loves you or that she hates you, but that doesn’t change the law or its deadlines. The law gives exactly four months for the officials to make a decision.

So, they can say whatever they want to you orally, but they will never put the same thing in writing, because that would be an obvious violation. If you'd had come exactly after four months, they would have had no choice but to register you in the system that same day.

But instead, you prefer to wait and obediently follow whatever the counter staff tell you. They are not an authority, they are just small employees living off your taxes. Once you understand this, life will become easier.

More than being obedient its about the trust I put in opposite human being(..the so called small employees).

I believed she was in that chair as she knows laws and deadlines. Learnt just now they would say love/hate stories too.

My trust-no-one skills indeed need to improve.

Also I did not read the law myself before going to commune.

I checked now at [link under review]

Waiting period

Submission of the complete application: the local authorities send it to the public prosecutor's office, which then has four months to issue an opinion.

Administrative processing: if the public prosecutor's office gives a favourable opinion, the local authorities will then finalise your application, which may take one to two months.

I do not know why they put in their website an extra one to two months. Maybe you know it?

residencecuriousity

I think there is a "small" detail missing in the definition of the 4-month deadline. Technically, the public prosecutor has 4 months to respond to the application, so the 4-month deadline is calculated after the public prosecutor confirms that the application has been received, not after the municipality submits the application.

So, theoretically, it is always possible that additional delay is caused by the fact that the municipality processes the application internally before sending it to the public prosecutor, but also by the responsible persons in the public prosecutor's office who send the confirmation to the municipality.
