COVID-19 : Looking for expat testimonies about the current situation in Brazil

Veedushi

Hello everyone,

I hope you're doing well.

We are looking for testimonies of expats living in Brazil for an article about the COVID-19 pandemic in Brazil.

How do you feel regarding the current situation in Brazil?

Do you feel safe in Brazil or are you looking to go back to your home country?

How are local authorities dealing with the situation?

How are you protecting yourself from COVID-19? Is there any new habit that you have adopted?

Feel free to reply to me on this thread or to contact me by private message should you wish to share your experience with us.

Many thanks in advance for your precious contribution.

Have a great weekend ahead!

Warm regards,
Veedushi

Washington - I miss you every day.  Thank you so very much.  I hope you rest in peace.

A lot of pain and suffering. I have already had two (2) good friends to die from the corvid-19 virus. I could not even go to their funeral. The man in Macae was in the hospital for two (2) months before he died. He had so much pain, that the morphine would not stop his pain. The doctors had to put him in a coma so his body could try to heal. His wife, could not visit him in the hospital. I heard some of her WhatsApp messages she sent to a friend of mine. You could clearly hear her pain loud and clear. She was extremely stressed out. His daughter, who is a nurse in Niteroi, could not visit her father in the hospital. I could not go to his funeral. I miss him every day. I ate dinner many times in his home in Macae. He was a extremely good husband, an excellent father who loved his daughter, and a friend to many people. He helped me many times with his patience and wisdom and kindness.

Washington died on the 19th of April, 2020

1.  How do you feel regarding the current situation in Brazil?
It is so painful to see so many people dying and not have enough money to buy rice and beans for their children.

2.  Do you feel safe in Brazil or are you looking to go back to your home country?
I wear a mask and gloves when I need to go buy groceries, medicine, etc. and I always use the gel when i see it available.  I have my lunch delivered by a motoboy to reduce my exposure and stay home a lot. No I do NOT feel safe.  I think 100% of the population should be tested on a DAILY basis to find the the people who are infected to top the spread of the COVID-19 and to get proper medical treatment ASAP.

3.  How are local authorities dealing with the situation?  The situation will get much worse in my opinion.  I think millions and millions of more people will become infected and many more innocent people will die here in Brasil, the USA, etc.

4.  How are you protecting yourself from COVID-19? Is there any new habit that you have adopted?  When I walk down the street and see someone with out NOT wearing a mask, I cross to the other side of the road and or top and get out of the way or turn my back.  I treat the COVID-19 like a very hungry and deadly rattle snake from Texas.  The purpose of a rattle snake is to eat. The rattle snake does not care about the age, the religion, the color of the skin, the politics, etc., it just wants to eat!!!
