Well before giving you ALL the information, it´s necessary to know a few more details. Otherwise it´s impossible to answer, or I can give you only a sweeping answer to your sweeping question. ;)

First of all and most important the visa question. You are going to stay permanent, temporary, as a student, working ???

Just you or anyone else together with you, like child, husband, ...?

Have you been to Brazil before? If not, I recomend to visit Brazil FIRST, before thinking about moving.

For more information about imigration and how to deal with the red tape in Brazil, download this eBook:

Looking forward to more details and comments from you.

I plan on moving there with my husband and 2 dogs.  we are definately coming for a visit first. we are looking into the recife/natal area. we plan on staying full time. we won't have to work but may want to just part time- to meet people and make a little extra spending cash which we would put back into the brazilian economy.
thanks for the visa info download.

Hi Kim,

is your husband Brazilian or do you have Brazilian citizenship? Or what´s your plan to get permanent/residence visa?

Many Americans like João Pessoa in the state of Paraíba. So there is already a big Expat community. I recomend that you pay PJ a visit, if possible, on your next trip to Brazil.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

Joao Pessoa

I can confirm that there are many Americans living in Joao Pessoa, there are also many Europeans living here as well.

A couple of Brit's who have moved here have set up a web site and also arrange meeting about every 3 months.

It is a really nice place to live and bring up kids, I have lived here for a few years now and I just see the City getting better and better.

Oh my god - "Joao Pessoa" please tell me about these meetings! I moved here from UK 5 months ago, well I was away for 2 of them, but I am so in need of making some friends and I dont yet speak portuguese!

Welcome to ½ûÂþÌìÌÃ, Gemma :)
It would indeed be a good idea to start up ½ûÂþÌìÌà meetings in Brazil! as is already been done in many countries around in the forum. It brings people together and it's fun.
