Special needs school

Zyaan

Hi All, I am moving to Doha later this year. I have a 6 year old son who is non verbal autistic. I was wondering if anyone on the forum could recommend a good school in Doha.

Best wishes
Z

Special needs is not a priority in the ME (can't seem to have a problem as this could cause you to loose 'face') and generally across the region people have real difficulties with getting their special needs children into a school with qualified teachers that can help. Mostly the school will also ask you to personally fund any additional help (support person) that the child may need. I can think of only a few schools in Doha that *might* have facilities to deal with this type of need - Doha College, American School, DESS and Parkhouse......... but also note that the waiting lists for places in these schools particularly in the grades up to Yr3 are very very long, with many people on the waiting lists for 3-6mths, unless your company sponsors places in a school.
