Employee departed Bahrain without closing their bank account

saudiexpat_2018

The employee has resigned and left Bahrain without closing her bank account. If she returns to Bahrain for a visit, could there be any issues related to potential fees or penalties from the bank, given that her salary is no longer being deposited and a minimum balance is required to maintain the account?

Thanks

Yes, there are chances. You can always email the bank and get the account closed.

Are you the employer or employee?

If employer then this has nothing to do with you UNLESS the employee took a loan and you undertook to transfer salary against that loan to the bank.   In this case, you should have notified the bank that the employee was leaving and / or transferred EOS to the bank account which would have allowed the bank to take necessary action.

Otherwise, there are zero implications for the employer.   And also zero for the employee if they didn't take a loan or owe money.   The bank account will be closed automatically once the earlier expiry date of the documents in the bank records is reached (residence visa or CPR or passport) and no updated documents are provided.  If minimum balance penalties are being charged then the employee needs to request for closure; you can't do it on employee's behalf.   Depending on what amount it totals up to, till account closure.........may have recovery implications on the employee.
