Moving from Non-EU country to Spain as Family reunion

Georgiannna

Hello dears,

I’m a Georgian citizen and my boyfriend is Spanish. We’re planning to move to Spain together, and we’re considering registering as a pareja de hecho. I understand that this gives me the right to apply for a residence card as a family member of an EU citizen, but I’m a bit unclear on the practical steps after that.

For example, once the pareja de hecho is officially registered, do I need to apply for a visa first to stay in Spain, or can I enter visa-free and then apply directly for the residence card? After applying, how long does it usually take to receive the card, and are there any unexpected issues people ran into during this process?

Has anyone gone through this process as a non-EU partner? I’d love to hear how it worked in practice, any timing issues, or things that were surprising or tricky.

Thanks so much in advance for sharing your experience!

You could ask your boyfriend to make inquiries at the immigration office.
