Planning to buy and renovate a house

martialj

Hello everyone,

Planning to buy and renovate an old house in Monsanto, and looking for tips and infos.
Already have my eyes set upon one, and trying to figure out what it implies costwise and administratively...
I am very excited about it, and quite scared🤪, like a boy going to school for the first time 😊, am sure some of you know the feeling.

Looking forward to chatting with some of you, in french or in english.

As Monsanto is one of the historic villages of Portugal, I assume that there will be many formal requirements and red tape when it comes to renovating a house. On the other hand, if you have a trusted Portuguese partner that knows how to deal with all of these things then this could be a fun project.

Hi and Welcome,

Some important and relevant information would be useful to start with................
Does "house" have habitation licence (or license) ?
Officially when was it built ie info from Portuguese Land Registry?

Hi  check all the documents through solicitor, as well as city council of that area. Secondly have a visit around the area the reason to check how the area is. About renovating the house check whether it has approval to do so and a licence.

Hello, Are you buying it directly with the owner or is there a real estate agency helping you through this process? It is very important to make sure you receive all the documents on the house before the deed, and also check with the city council to see what are the conditions for a renovation.
