Getting Through to AIMA by Phone for Residency Visa

wordsmith555

Bom dia. I have been trying to call the 2 AIMA numbers to schedule the second stage of the D7 visa. My call goes immediately to a recorded message, first in Portuguese, then in English, giving the AIMA website details. Then the message begins anew, usually cutting off into the repetition of the English part of the message.

Yesterday when I called at 7 pm I immediately started hearing a woman speaking Portuguese. She switched to English, saying "Press 1 for English," which I did. Next she said "Press 1" for the visa type, so I pressed 1 for residency visa. Then the message was that there were no appointments available.

So, if anyone knows, if you are going to get thru on the phone, will AIMA begin with one recitation of the website details, then start the options list? In other words, can I hang up after hearing the website details twice because that's an indication I won't get thru?

I have a basic question about the automated response system on the AIMA site. On any given day, if you get thru to the point where the recorded message is that there are no appointments available, is that true for the entire day? In other words, if you get that message at 8:02 am, is that valid for the entire day? Or only for that one instance when you call? Or do we just not know?! And there are many people in PT now, like me, who got the travel visa but not the AIMA appointment. But people are getting AIMA appts again in their returned passports. So how, and why, is the embassy even giving out appointments again if there are so many people already in PT calling every day to try to get an appt?!

The immigrants who call AIMA from Portugal have different issues to be treated, but they always need an appointment. It could be to renew their residence permit, to family reunification, to apply for residency through the expression of interest process ("manifestação de interesse " with travel visa, which since june 2024, it is only valid for portuguese speaking countries) , etc.
