If you are intending to travel to Malta on your own (without your husband) you will have to apply for a visa.

If you travel with your husband passport and marriage certificate would be ok to enter the Schengen area until your husband can apply for your residency as a family member in Malta.

As you are intending to stay in Malta you will have to contact and apply through the Embassy of Spain in Manila which processes applications for Malta.

Your husband can also contact the Ministry of Foreign Affairs here in Malta for more information.

Thank you for the reply. Wow! that seem so easy for me to do (If I travel with my husband).

I really got confused because some of my friends said that I must lodge all my documents to beijing china (embassy of malta) in order for them to process my visa.

Actually year 2011 I applied for a tourist visa to visit my husband (which is then still my boyfriend during that year). He invited me to visit him and I did went to Embassy of Spain in Manila but the officer in there told me that I have to bring my documents to beijing china because It's the beijing China who will examine my documents. I just did not went through it because there's not much time for me to do.

Do you think the one you mentioned first if I will travel with my husband is still applicable this time?

it makes a big difference if you travel alone or with your Maltese (EU) husband.

I don't see what China has to do with your application. It is either the country of first entry that issues the visa or the country that you will spend your time in.

It should be easy for your husband to get the information from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs here in Malta.

Through which country would you be entering the Schengen area.

I'm not quite sure what you mean by the one I mentioned first ?

My husband went to the Central Visa Unit and they gave him this lists of what documents should I need to comply. And it state that all documents must be presented to the beijing china...whewww!
Third country nationals like the Philippines should apply in beijing china.

As a third-country national married to an EU citizen you have certain rights. If you are travelling with your husband and have the supporting documents with you I don't see what China has to do with it.

If you travel on your own it is different and difficult!

Let your husband inquire here in Malta.

Yes, it's the Central Visa Unit in Malta that my husband went because that's where he told to go when he went to the Ministry of
Foreign Affairs to make the inquiries.

I have read the link you gave me about documents required for non EU nationals...I wonder where we (husband and me) can get the "entry visa".


There sooooo many documents that I need to accomplish to leave the Philippines (If I will travel alone). Marriage Certificate, passport, invitation letter from my husband, insurance..those are few to mention.

I don't seem to get it that much when you asked me about where I am entering an EU?...does it mean the point of entry? before I reach Malta? if that is so. I will not pass through any other schengen country as the usual route is Philippines to Malta ( although there are stop over country like Dubai).

I thought you would be travelling to Malta via Dubai. Then your point of entry into the Schengen area is Malta. That should make things even easier if you are travelling with your Maltese husband.

There are big differences in the way different EU countries deal with visitors and documents!

Otherwise you have to follow the guidelines and get the tourist visa first.
