cities in Bulgaria (tomatoes)

garymota

Hi everyone, my name is Gary.  I was wondering what city in Bulgaria is known for tomatoes? I'd really appreciate it if anyone one can help.  I was told it was by water, which makes sense since tomatoes need water to grow.  Also they said it was in a sunny province.  Thanks again!

Hi not sure on a specific city or area, most things grow well either near water or not, the climate is hot during the summer although you need to know where your nearest umbrella is too as it as likely to rain, I stayed in a little village last August near Russe, what us British would call summer holiday time for over a week it lashed down night and day! (More English weather!!) The owner of this Guest house had a vast array of vegetables on a large allotment although by August most foods had been picked but he had a good supply of grapes, tomato, courgette, aubergine, and pepper's, all quite soft vegetables that require water and sun, I have witnessed most food types being successfully grown in Bulgaria, obviously you might struggle to find a coconut on a tree but hey where there's a challenge I'm sure someone will meet it!
Regards Steve.

Yeah- the whole country has rather spectacular tomatoes. Plovdiv area, Varna area, up in the mountains- everywhere I have been/lived here has these awesome huge flavorful tomatoes. I have never heard of one area that claims to outdo the others.

(Plus, the whole country is rather sunny during summer).
