Fires are happening all over Europe, but in Bulgaria.....

Sadly, this is becoming a normal occurrence. Europe is experiencing hot weather a lot earlier than it used to and for longer periods.

In Austria, we have BBQ bans, and smoking is banned in forests and open grassland. We are lucky that we have just a week of rain, but that brings another problem because the ground has been baked dry, we have had floods, the ground was like concrete.聽

So tragic, especially when idiot arsonists are involved too!

But the wildfire risk is why it's very important to keep dry vegetation well away from the walls of our houses. I see a couple of the unoccupied and unvisited renovated expat houses in our village are at risk, with dried out tall weeds very close to the foot of the walls. A grass fire can easily send sparks up into the eaves.

I probably need to get the weeds on the vacant block beside our house cut back further, but we make sure there's at least 3 metres cleared.

You are absolutely right as I'd heard about other EU countries suffering extreme temperatures and fires.聽 Greece is mentioned聽 also. As well has flooding in Romania.

At a glance it seems someone up there picked up our motoring itinerary and stuck pins in for flooding & fire 馃敟 馃檮..although if we look at it another way its a firsthand warning of areas we should be avoiding.鈿狅笍

Its good that you are taking the necessary precautions around your Bulgarian home馃弲 we are also planning to do a rigorous cut back in the garden.聽 Last year we had our聽 friendly neighbours

assist us that .

I had a conversation with our very lovely agent this morning who being based in Bulgaria assured me that the areas which are affected by fires do not include any our properties.聽

So of course I'm hoping 馃檹it stays that way 馃憟
