I thought this was about the new (well to be new) direct boat service from Burgas to Istanbul. It feels like they promise that this is "just about to begin" every year.....

I am still waiting....I can't wait to sail across for some of that tasty chicken.

"Istanbul"?  Is that anywhere near Constantinople? 😎

The one and the same. Our closest metropolis.

In terms of property it's insane, but glad for the country and those who own property (especially in Sofia).

Not so good for the country, and especially not for youngsters who stand little chance of getting a foot on the property ladder without rich-ish parents to help. It's not uncommon here in Sofia for a couple with kids to live in a one-bedroom flat, rented if they can't afford a mortgage, and it must be very disheartening for them to read news like that - however good it might be for folks like us.

It all adds to the pressure on young people to seek their fortunes elsewhere. 😥

Sadly, yes. If young Bulgarians can't afford to buy a home on Bulgarian wages, they pretty much have to go expat themselves for better paid work. But I've spoken to a number of people who've come back once they earned enough to at least have a decent deposit to buy somewhere in BG. The price rise means the younger Bulgarians doing the same thing now have to stay away longer and are less likely to return.

And it would be excellent if boat services to Istanbul resumed, but I suspect we might have to wait a while longer yet.
