Belgian nationality

Jie Zhou

Here’s some helpful info on applying for Belgian nationality:

In addition to following the necessary procedures in your commune, there are a few things to keep in mind:

1. - **Integration Training:** It’s important to arrive on time for your integration training. If you miss it, you might miss out on the current opportunity and have to start again (go back to the beginning of the line). It’s generally a good idea to register in Anderlect instead of Scharbeek. You could save a lot of time by having your turn to get the spot sooner.

2. - **Processing Time:** It takes exactly 4 months and 1 week from the day you submit your completed documents at the commune. (For EU members, it might take a bit less time.)

3. - **Checking Your Belgian Status:** You can check if you’re already Belgian on the Iris website. It’s faster to update there than the notification from the commune by post.

4. - **Issuing a New ID and Passport:** Once you’re officially Belgian, you can go to the commune and have your ID photo taken to issue a new ID and passport on the same day.

5. - **Police Check:** In 1200, there was no police check required. However, different communes and individuals may have different requirements.
