The Toilet Paper Question

Combies

I’ll apologize up front for asking this question..I know the Can you flush t.p. question has been asked before..but my question is ..for brand new construction are the septic systems better? I guess I’m asking if a brand new home is built can I flush t.p? And although you aren’t supposed to flush tp how many of you do anyway?

When building our home we made sure they used sewage pipes large enough to handle flushing toilet paper and garbage disposal waste. Have not had any issues, normally just wife and I but we do have mix of local and guest from USA and pipes get a good work out. We do make sure we use toilet paper rated for septic tank use. No issues for over 3 years.

In my experience with our existing home 1988 vintage in La Vega, the 4 inch pipes are routed to a concrete distribution box, then routed to a tank (I have not seen the tank yet).  The distribution box is the trouble where stuff can build up and cause a blockage.  In the US, the distribution boxes are used after the tank to the leach field where it is liquid, not solids.

In much of new construction you can flush tp.  And tp these days disintegrates easier and faster.  Not sure that is the right term but you get the idea. 😊

We flush, but also have bidet seats on all our toilets to minimize our use of TP. I also flush a septic tank treatment each month to help break down the waste.

We don't use a garbage disposal - we compost everything we can.

We never had a problem flushing toilet paper, a more frequent problem is when water supply is too low to fill the reservoir.

Our new house has 4 concrete ‘ distribution boxes’ around the house, they are right in the pathway and the lids are all cemented in so that will be a PITA if they ever need to be opened up.

Thank you! I’ll be on the look out for those distribution boxes then!
