Changes in Immigration policy

wondering9

I cannot imagine trying this without a lawyer (and I am a reasonably resilient person with middlin' Spanish) -- (1) because of the stress level, (2) because of the lawyer's practical inside knowledge (people have commented about how a good lawyer knows how things *really* work, not just how they look on paper), and (3) because if you're on your own and not super familiar with the process, all it can take is one stupid little misunderstanding to hit a brick wall.

My hat is off to anyone who has managed this solo, but having a good lawyer can make a night-and-day difference... and dealing with recalcitrant bureaucrats is their bread and butter, so if that part makes you hesitate, put it in the hands of a pro.

I did my intial application by myself and with limited Spanish,  probably added a month or so onto the timeline doing it alone.

All of our dreams are on the other side of fear.

And fear comes from the unknown! It will work out and have faith

Current update: Received my card and cedula probably the only part of process that was quick and painless - both offices quick which is not a common term in DR. Until next year for the renewal!

-------------------------------------------------

Updated timeline for myself:
3 months approximately in US
13 months in DR - just finally went in for my biometrics and photographs and hopefully few weeks receive my card

In another thread has all the headaches but even after finally submitting documents and taking medical, the 90th day later they sent email I needed to take medical. It was a mistake but the process has been total headache but glad finally over with or I hope - maybe I should wait to I receive the card.

Some people have shorter timeframes but if they want to hold you up or deny you they will!

Punta Cana Airport Migration person wanted to know why my temporary had expired and didnt have it renewed and then when I left from Santo Domingo the migration person said how come I still dont have it - she remembers stamping me leaving a year ago from seeing in the system.... - @DRVisitor
