Divorce after getting Dominican Residence

chickens15

Hello, I've been perusing the forum and see such useful information!

I wanted to add my own question, please.

I am Dominican, currently living in Peru, married to a Peruvian man. I am planning on applying for husband's Dominican residence.

My question is once his residence is approved if we were to get divorced, would that have any effect on his residence or his renewing of it every year?

Thanks in advance  for your help!

Yes getting divorced does effect his renewals.  To avoid that he can get citizenship after residency by marriage. Then there is no renewal.

Thanks so much for your reply, planner. How soon can he apply for citizenship after obtaining his residence?

I believe it's 6 months after receiving your residency card.

Thinking of gking to DR, getting married and stay to live then apply for residency.  Is this possible?  Would it be better to get married first and then apply?  I am an American citizen and he is a Tunisian citizen. Does an attorney charge per couple or per person?  Thank you for any information you can provide.
