Does Belize Rural South (offshore islands) have beggers or hustlers?

ussvalor

Do the offshore islands of Ambergris Caye, Caye Caulker, etc. have any people begging or hustling foreigners for money?

Of course they do. You have money (you must, all gringos have money). So yes, they will hustle you for a piece of it.

We've been to Caye Caulker (as well as  Sarteneja once and Placencia once and passed through Ambergris Caye) four times in the last four years. We've been approached by people selling pot & cocaine and offers to braid hair. We have never seen beggers in any part of Belize. They're on every corner in the U.S.

There was one boy on the street in San Pedro on Ambergris Caye that I bought a necklace from.  Two days later he was giving me a hard sell on more jewelry and got mad at me when I gently said no - repeatedly.
