Vietnam currently has no retirement visa available. Visas are currently in limbo with 15 March being the new date for opening Vietnam to tourists.
Previously as an American you would be eligible for a 1 year tourist visa but now that may no longer be an option.
You can get a visa application online at the Vietnam Foreign Ministry website if you like, with 3 month multiple entry as the maximum.
The embassies are really mum right now. I am in Cambodia and the embassy here has a standard answer, 鈥淣ot Now鈥� repeated 3 times. Lol
I will take my printed application into the VN embassy Monday morning and see if they accept or not. I will update after that鈥�.

There is no Retirement visa for Vietnam.

The date for border open is March 15th - maybe they are waiting until then, but as yet nobody knows.

The one-year visa is mentioned on the visa page of the Vietnam Embassy in Washington, DC, but since they really don't have particulars for any visa, that may not mean much.聽 I'm hopeful, though.

2019 I received a 1 year visa and when I arrived I was given 90 days. It鈥檚 up to immigration how long you stay. It was a multi entry so I would have to leave and then come back in鈥�. I left early because of a medical problem so didn鈥檛 have a chance to the border run.
We will find out next week about the new policies.
