Hi everyone.

Recently I've had a job offer in Colombo. I havent found much information as I would have liked about how it is to live there. Im 30, woman and mexican. I would go there on my own. So I wanted to see how safe it was and also I have heard is quite expensive. Please contact me if you are living in Colombo or if you have information about how is like to live there. I guess what Im a bit scared of is not to be able to find friends as easily. Does Colombo has an expat community?

Of course as a woman Im concerned about my safety but as you said if I take the right precautions will be OK.

One more question. How is it like in rainy/monsoon season?

I will be getting there on september so I guess that is time for lots of rain. Is it OK? or is it hard to live under these circumstances?

Hello, we are actually living in Laos Vientiane and will move very soon to Colombo, in October 2010, for a period of minimum one year. We are looking to rent an appartment in Colombo with 2/3 Bedrooms, Bathroom, Kitchen, etc.... fully furnished. We are coming only with our clothings. We really don't know this city. Your recommandations in term of safe and nice district will be very appreciated or your recommanded contacts. Our budget per month is approximatly 1000US$. Thanks in advance for your support.

It聮s been fairly alright, although you couldn聮t expect everything beyond expectation.. personally I聮ve felt much safer than many other places I聮ve been around the world.

Living expenses, can vary all depends on individual requirements and your life-style. Living around City limits can be at times a little bit more expensive than outskirt although there may be exceptions.
As an expat been enjoying every single moment living in this lovely Island nation!
So, I am sure you too will.
