EXPAT BLOG JANUARY 29th SUNSET MEET UP AT TROU AUX BICHES
niride.licia > 17h
Just a quick note / reminder for our new comers :
½ûÂþÌìÌà meetups are NOT dating nor alcoholic meetups
(I received a couple of PMs from active members and just wanted to clarify this)
Hi Julian,
Is there a back up plan if it rains heavily like today on 29th Jan. Since all are looking forward for this event , lets meet up somewhere indoors incase of heavy rains on that day.
Cheers!!!
Terence
Actually I didn't think about it (just realized it this evening) ... any idea ?
to start with we should draw a list so to have an idea of how many ppl there will be.

Touche'!! I agree, a rough Idea of the number of people will help getting better alternatives if it Pours!!
BBQ might not be such a good idea with thunderstorms around. Maybe you could do it at Sheraton or Suffren.

Next event will be in a pub ...
... but this time we'll simply meet @ Trou aux Biches
We should be more than 60 participants !
No rain today, finger crossed
The count of 60 is the right approximate. I suggest that we go with Alisa's suggestion that we go ahead with the original plan of meeting at the beach. In case it pours on that day, rather than cancelling the event we move to Suffren or Sheraton as these places are empty on Saturdays and accomodating all of us will not be an issue.Unless you know a similar place near the beach where we can immediatley move to incase it rains.
There's a bar pretty close to the beach, I'll go and speak with them today or tomorrow
This expat meat/meet thing looks good! I know i just joined yesterday but, If there's room for my better half and I, we would like to come too. Yes, that bar opp. Police Station should be fine if rain falls. Prices (in the daytime at least) seemed reasonable too. Frankly I would say there's good chance of rain simply because it's that 'time of year'. It just sticks in my mind that, during the period of Maha Shivratree, it p*sses down like hell!(BBQFood-for-thought = Isn't it ironic though that normally one goes to the beach to 'have a soak' in the water but, when it rains by the beach, we all wanna cover?)
Hi there - Sounds like a great idea but just be sure to check out the weather. Forecast for Saturday whole day and night is meant to be bucketing down. Check out windguru.com or windfinder.com to see Mon Choisy weather.
Matt
I am sure I can make it as well. All my family have gone back to the UK, plus my wife, so it would be a first for me as well.
Joe
No, would be too late in the day now anyway, so let's just stick to SAT 29, from 17h @ trou aux biches beach. Voila ! If it rains, scramble and run for cover or go for a swim.........

Agree Or run to the bar nearby..
+1 (means I also agree)
I am assuming that we are still bringing food even if we end up in that bar when it rains; would they allow food in?
I don't think so
How about a few umbrellas, have a look at the weather forecast for Saturday and don't do a BBQ? Maybe bring and share with food that doesn't need to be cooked would be good?
Count me in, currently living in Tamarin so if anyone needs a lift, let me know
This may be a silly idea, but i'll say it anyway.... If someone had a massive canvas-like/tarpaulin-type 'top' of some kind, with eyelets, then perhaps we could tie this against those trees situated near the entrance of Trou Aux Biches public beach (grassy area)? This could act as a cover and BBQ could go ahead.
BTW, is this still scheduled for 17:00 ?
Hi juys anyone are most welcome for a lift from quatre bornes
rishi
Hi
I would need a lift back to Quatre Bornes. Rudy will be taking me to from Quatre Bornes to the beach for the event.
I suggest that we change the theme from Barbecue to sandwiches. All can bring sandwiches, it can be shared and the remaining can be taken back. I am sure it will not get wasted.
Cheers!!!

I agree with Hansa and Terence, we should think of changing the theme, nothing else
Paninis or Pain au Poulet/poisson ( i hope i got that right) and some other delicacies can be great!!!

Stormtrooper.... excellent idea, not silly at all. unfortunately i don't have a canvas, but if anyone does - plus of course some loooooong pieces of string :-) we would be all set on the beach, come what may !
From my last visit to trou aux biches the parking is very limited (since they made a lot of changes) What is the current situation with the food ? What kind of food are we now bringing? Is the BBQ side now off. Need to think about what food and drinks we are now going to share.
Best Wishes
Joe
ps anyone need a lift from Pereybere area?
Hello, I would like to join as well with some friends.
I am sure the weather will be with us. How about the barbecue still on?
cheers
Sebastien
Sorri I won't be able to make it today as I have been inviterd out for the day by a friend.
Have a good time all of you.
Joe
rain was also announced yesterday ... the weather was quite warm and humid ... but it didn't rain
It's 11:12 now and been dry all day today. I see clouds but also gaps between them too. Very little dark clouds. I've still no idea if i should prepare stuff to grill, or stuff to 'sandwich'. I think 'final call' need to be made now (if not already made and I missed it!).
So question is ... 'BBQ' or 'Sandwich etc'?
My personal vote would be 'Sandwich etc' for the following reasons:
a) Because 60% chance rain, the BBQ would have to remain 'without shower' during a fixed period. Hence 60% chance it will get soggy.
b) If one is 100% hungry, this could leave people 60% dissatisfied.
People need to be 100% satisfied... so I would vote for 'sandwiches!'
Sandwiches is the best option. I don't know about the North, but in QB it's pouring since last night, and raining since early morning.
And my advice would be to drive carefully on the way!
12.20 It has just started raining very heavily in Quatre Bornes
12:26 - Trou Aux Biches - It's gone all grey now, raining, windy.... some gusts... I would say it's not even a 'sandwich thing' now simply because it now looks like a total 'bar/resto/pub' thing... and none of those establishments would allow sandwiches in (i think).
So question now is... do we know where to be held and, if so, where?
starting to rain now - ah no, it just stopped
I looks like a class one cyclone warning in QB. Someone must've danced TOO hard to invoke the rain god! Is the plan still on?
