Flirting across cultural lines

CLGinDE

After reading this () SpiegelOnline article on Flirting with Germans, I decided to start a topic.

(1) Where have you found it easiest to "flirt" with the locals? :par:
(2) What are the best :top: and worst =( pick-up lines you've used or had used on you and where did the pick-up attempt occur?

I'll start.  I'm too shy to flirt with anyone :gloria, but I got a lot of attention in NYC and none whatsoever in France, Italy or Thailand.

Best pickup: While not really a pickup, I was on the way to an exam one morning and was stopped at a crosswalk.  A guy was walking down the street, stopped, and asked me to smile, I wasn't in the mood and told him so, he said, "Oh, come on."  So I smiled to humor him.  He made as if he was just struck in the heart with an arrow, then said, "You stole my heart, can I at least have your name?" So I gave it, sure a pick up attempt was next, but he just said, "Keep smiling, beautiful," and kept walking.  I was in such a good mood the rest of the day.  This was in Richmond, Virginia, USA. :shy

Worst was in North Carolina in the USA: "Hey baby, do you taste as good as you look?
Although a close runner up was the Turkish guy on the Berlin S-bahn who offered me a place in his harem as girlfriend #4.

I couldn't even consider accepting.  I already have husband #1-and-only!

Sench - Do Turkish girls generally not believe in saving themselves for marriage?

My brother's fiance is Persian and she also believes this.  Lucky for him they are getting married next month (after 3 years together!).

LOL!
that´s the best topic ever!
well, I´m brazilian and I live in Argentina. The girls here are kind of boring, they think they are too much for you... but we are lucky to have so many "gringas" in the city.

I think that men/women relation ship is one of the most complex thing ever, especially when you analyse the differnts between diferent cultures...compare an aussie's attitude with women, an canadian , nz'der, french , Italian, they all so different..............we all need to mix , shake and there.........perfect!

Ha! I love that! I sometimes speak about flirting on my blog because I find it so funny! Since living in France, I've heard some "do you have time? To get to know each other?" or "do you wanna dance with my friend?" or "do you need some help with your groceries"? And all that with the Southern French accent mademoizzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzelle! But it puts me in such a great mood for the rest of the day, like Cristina said!
Just now, during my holidays back in Angola, a guy saw me from far and screamed "I'd give anything! Anything to have you!" But I was with a friend of my mother's who said "if you want my niece, gather 1 kg of mosquito fat"...

Shame...

Gather 1kg of mosquito fat! Lol, I'll have to remember that.

I was looking at organic fruit in Notting Hill market and this guy asks me, "Do you look THIS good EVERYDAY or just on Mondays!!?!"...and being somewhat preoccupied, I said, "Sorry?" and made him repeat what he had just said, which made the whole endevour seem kinda futile...

Oh well. He was cute, too.

Ha! :)

Being a French woman, your reputation is made before you step in! Best place to flirt: the UK but I ended up with big weirdoes - eish!

Concerning the pick up lines: I'd rather forget!

En disant à une vietnamienne que je la trouve charmante, elle m'a répondu qu'aimer n'est pas aisé!

There are those that call you and ask "do you remember me? We met at the train station!"
I never give my number like that! :O
