Living in Quito pros and cons

frankselleck

Hello expat members,

I am acquainted with quite a few Spanish speaking countries as I have traveled to many.  Ecuador came into the picture back in 2013 when I first went to Cuenca and found it to be a great city to retire.  I came back to Cuenca a few times to be extra sure this is where I wanted to retire permanently.  I spent enough time there to realize this would not be where I wanted to remain there for good.  The main reason was seeing to many expats and groups who like many places in the states were too established with their own cronies.  I can be without those who are very judgmental.  The friends I have in Cuenca are Ecuadorian who I felt comfortable with and the reason being that I spoke fluent Spanish.  The language was my major in college and of course a minor in physical education.  The sports fans related to me quite well as that is what paid my college as an athlete.  Nevertheless, Cuenca was out of the picture.  I, then, spent time in Quito a number of times and found it would be the ideal place.  I have a permanent chauffer there who I have known him and his family at least 12 years.  I first met him at JW Marriott where I stayed my first time and took upon himself to places outside of Quito when he was not working.  His family and I have been friends since.

I could write more, but I will get to the point of what I hope to hear.  I am familiar with the different areas to live in Quito.  I, particularly like Parque Carolina as I have two small puppies, one an Ecuadorian bichon frisee who is trilingual and my toy maltipoo who is from Summerlein in Las Vegas.  I named my boy from Ecuador, "Cuito", as many folks from the states don't pronounce Quito correctly if you know what I mean.  My little girl's name is Lojana, "Loja", for short as that is the province where my chauffer is from.  Yes, Cuito understands English, Spanish and doggie language.

I am seeking to found out from foreigners what area of Quito they live in and the pros and cons of those they know about to live there permanently.  Also, rental prices I will be dealing with once I make my move.  Hope to hear from those who can give me information I can utilize when searching for the ideal place.  I  look forward to meeting those who are in touch once I make my touchdown there.  Thanks!
