Moving with my dogs

Has anyone moved to Cuenca with their dogs from outside of Ecuador?

Does anyone have any suggestions regarding airlines which will transport large dogs in Cargo?

Gracias

I fly and have flown many times to Quito from Las Vegas with my two dogs ( maltipoo and bichon frisee) on American Airlines.  They weigh 10 and 19 pounds and are very well trained including gracious at the airport.  Flights are four hours to Miami and four hours to Quito.  They have dog stations at the airport in Las Vegas so they can release before getting on the plane.  Miami has a doggie station as well.  Quito airport does not have this station so when you arrive you can to your restroom and lay out newspaper, paper towels, etc. for your dog to do its thing.  American Airlines has always been good for my doggies to travel.  You will have to do initial paperwork on your dogs and eventually get their dog ID numbers which you can use every time you travel.

My Daughter and I appreciate your fast reply, unfortunately our dogs

are around 100 pounds each...that is where we have our problem...

we have them on a diet!!!!! but that will take time and is not the best

for the dogs ,,,one is a Labrador and the other a Mountain dog....

there must be a way, since we have a house rented in Challuabamba

from the 15th of March. Any other thoughts?  Regards, Regitze von Holck

Your dogs can still go on American Airlines, as long you stipulate to AA that one is yours and the other your partner.  If they are trained well enough and don't disturb anyone, get an extra cabin seat which has more room and they can lie in front of your seat.  Otherwise, they will go in the luggage department underneath.  Good luck in your travels.

Thank you.......we are looking to get the right size crates for them to

go to the baggage section, ....many airlines now do not carry dogs

if they can not be in the cabin under the seats. but we keep working.

Since no one has mentioned it: You'll likely need to get a taxi from Guayaquil or Quito (the two int'l airports in Ecuador) to Cuenca since the local airline (aeroregional) does not allow large dogs (over 8kg iirc) to fly and, afaik, Cuenca doesn't have an international airport.
