Hi and welcome on the forum daninternational!

I have read many positive articles about Cotacachi. It seems that almost all of them are written by people who also sell real estate in Cotacachi. I would like to read some posts by people who do not sell real estate. Is the town really as nice as the promotors say it is?

What is the cost of living really like? What is the advantage of living in Cotacachi over say Ibarra or Otavalu?

rakututu

I'm really interested in going to Ecaudor for awhile and see how it sets with me.  It is a beautiful country!!  Is Cotacachi really filled with Americans and are natives upset that a huge influx of westerners are blasting their homeland?

Give me an idea of Cotacahi as compared with Otavalo, Banos, Vilcabama, etc. My wife and I spent a month in Ecuador this past winter, crosing the border from Columbia and liked it very much. We will return this Nov. and spend 3-4 months in country looking at options. Cuenca seems a bit too big and too gringo but that is just a snapshot opinion. We have planed for years on living outside the US and have spent a great deal of time in Asia but the distance and "feel" is not what we are looking for. We still have a business in the States and simply have to make the decision to quit. Unfortunately it is not something we can sell. We are considering buying something rather than long term rental as to get some money out of the market. Anyway, any thing you can pass along is perhaps something we may want to know.

I am ready to move to either costa rica or, hopefully, ecuador.  bringing my cat. it's cheaper in ecuador but i'm worried of negative american fellings.

huh ? What negative american feelings ? We Ecuadoreans love American stuff and people. We just don't like American ambassadors making false accusations or other govt employees stating Ecuador is the United Nations for druglords.

500 more from where ?

And how do you know about Ecuador being or not being United Nations for druglords? I bet you one of those who voted "si" recently as well... Enjoy!!!

rakututu

I look at blogs that say "Panama yes!  Americans NO!" plus many other negative comments and I know i need to weed out extremes but it spooked me a little.  also from Boise Idaho - go to Kayak.com 653 to go to san jose costa rica rt and 1255 to go to quito rt - that's amazing!!  1020 to nicaragua

huh ? what does the Si or No vote have to do with anything. Btw, the US is numero 1 in drug consumption and trafficking. ;) so for an American govt employee to make such a statement is laughable.

huh, huh, huh....you obviously are singing for your govnt, being "wrongfully accused" that is how. Sure, US is number 1 in consumption, and Ecuador has its part and your idiot Correa acted like his idiot friends Chavez and Castro would without any regards to the economy going to pieces - this is laughable. I can smell through the screen those "si" ecuadorians - that is how it is relevant.

ElvisNYC

Can you please list why the economy is going to pieces ? I'm very interested in your observations. Look into reading about the Ecuadorean economy before Correa, and how is it now. Seriously, look into that. I don't know if you're a foreigner or a local, but you should at least be informed before presenting an argument.

Before Correa, this country have had several Presidents in 10 years, inefficient Congress, no help to the poor, high inflation, devaluations, etc.

It would be great if you can present a logical discussion why you believe Correa is bad for this country, when in fact he has done great things - which obviously seem nothing to you. Great, thanks and I'm pretty sure you're one of those who likes to say NO and without logical reasoning, typical Ecuadorean like behavior.

Sale del siglo pasado con esos pensamientos :D

I guess a person who doesn't work with American interests or its agenda is a dictator and an enemy ?

Have you tried Spirit Airlines?  You could fly into Colombia and either bus to Ecuador or catch a flight from there.  Should be considerably less.

I'm hoping the moderator will step in and remind everyone to keep it civil.
