I'm Noreen - my husband and I live in Charlotte, NC with our son, Liam who is 13.  We are from the Wash DC area, but landed here in NC due to circumstances beyond our control.  Last year, we were living in Granada, Nicaragua and loving it. Our son has muscular dystrophy and contracted Dengue Fever. His doctors recommended we leave due to the serenity of the illness should he get it again.  So, we landed here in Charlotte, NC on a very temporary basis as we have family here.  Through much research, we have decided on Ecuador and my husband will actually be there this weekend looking for rental properties in Contacachi and the surrounding area.  No Dengue mosquitos at that elevation.  We also chose Ecuador because of the muscular dystrophy awareness and the two centers in Quito. There is absolutely NOTHING for MD in Central America.  I hoped to get involved with this association while in Central America, but Nicaragua is such a completely corrupt country - it would have been next to impossible.  I taught English at an international school also.  So, our plan is to move APril 1st and we are all very excited.

Hi Noreen:  Wow, it seems that you are a real adventurer.  How long have you been in Charlotte?  My husband and I were born & raised in Southern California.  9 years ago we relocated to Mooresville, North Carolina and we were loving it.  Except for the winters, which seemed to get harsher each year.  I am a avid Nascar fan so I was in the right place.  But we decided we wanted to go some where warm, where we would need neither heat nor A/C.  After much research we decided that the coast in Ecuador would be for us, and booked a rental house for 3 mos. in a little town called Crucita.  From there we would travel up and down the coast and go inland to Cuenca & down to Loja and Vilcabama to help us make a decision of where we wanted to be in the USA's wintertime.  Well, we fell in love with Ecuador and we really liked the slow pace of Crucita.  After a month, we totally changed our life plan around and decided we wanted to be here in Ecuador for at least 9 mos. out of the year and visit family in the states during other times.  We bought a condo on the beach in Crucita, went back to the States for 6 mos., gathered all our documents and moved here last August 28, 2012.

I wish you well on your adventures in Ecuador and hope we can keep in touch.

And, How about you Christine?
