Low Cost health insurance options for Retirement Visa?

stealtannest3t

Hello all - Applying for retirement visa and looking for advice on low cost option for qualifying health insurance.  I never intend to use the medical insurance since I prefer to pay out-of-pocket so cheapest option that qualifies is my goal.

Some people recommend Starr Travel Insurance which is only $150 USD for the year, but doesn't cover pre-existing conditions.  I have also looked into Assist Card which is closer to $1000 USD for a year and apparently does cover pre-existing.  Will the Cancilleria even look to see whether pre-existing coverage exists when I submit?  I haven't looked into SURA or others because the costs will be high for a 65 year old.

Also what level of insurance is needed?  $50K.  $100K. $150K?  I can't find reliable info on this.

Article 77 Visa M Pensionado requires:

4.    Demonstrate that you have health coverage in Colombia, or a health policy with coverage in the national territory against all risks in case of accident, illness, maternity, disability, hospitalization, death, or repatriation, for the time foreseen for your stay in the country;

Thanks in advance!

If you got somethingvfor $150 a year that doesnt cover existing conditions use it.

The cancilleria doesnt care aboout that.

All they want to see is a minimum amount about around $90,000 for emergency and repatriation you dead or.alive to your home country

In reality all these bogus health insurance policies are just bureacratic documents that have the.weasle words to satisfy te Cancilleria visa agent, but they are all pretty much fake, and good luck ever making a real vcaim with them. That includes tge more expensive programs like AssistCard.

Common really,a prgram giving you $100 K coverage for $150 a year with emergency repatriation to your home country? Obviously fake , but if it satisfies the cancilleria visa agent, thsts all that matters.

I used ATM Colombia and it worked. It was about $360 a year ago. For a year.

If the medical company gives you a certificate and the general policy TsandCs that should be good enough. Dont include any information saying you.personally have preexisting confitions.

A word of caution. If you want a visa longer than one year, get a health care policy with a duration of 2 years or more..

If you get only a 1 year xuration certificate,  they might give you a visa for only one year. At least thats what happened to me, with a Rentista  Visa

Allthough if you apply with a 2.year  duration health policy, there is no guarantee  they will give youva 2 year visa, or even any visa period.

Also with a pensionada visa I think you need a medical examination saying you are sound.

If you cant get one that doesnt mention pre existing conditions  ( hopefully you can)?in your home country, get one done in Colombia.

Thanks for the info Nico!  I am going with Starr Travel Insurance medical only for $120 /year covers $50K medical expense and $100K repatriation.  Got my clean bill of mental and physical health from a Colombian doctor friend with no mention of pre-existing conditions.  Cost was a nice bottle of wine.  I will be filing on Monday so wish me luck!

I got some insurance quotes from 2K and upwards per year which is just crazy for something I never intend to use.   Same for apostille services got quoted $500 times two and shopped around and paid about $225 total from Monument Visa ,whom I highly recommend.  Same for translation services.  Paid less than $50 with one day turnaround versus a quote for $300 with one week turnaround.
