Mig Check trouble

cccmedia

While the fact of travelers not being asked to present

the document is not disputed, it has been suggested

that some airport/security agents may possibly see

the Check-MIG status of a traveler on their screen ..

which is not usually visible to the traveler.

I'll have an update for y'all tomorrow, arrival time around noon in Medellin. The Check Mig site was very clunky; but, we worked through it. I wish I had done it earlier to avoid stress.

I agree, the agents already have the database info available for whatever flights they are processing at the moment.  When I left Colombia last week the agent hardly looked at me.  He put my passport into a scanner and then spend about 15 seconds studying his screen, asked my my flight number and stamped my passport, that was it.  No mention of CheckMig.  I also suspect that newer passports with all the latest biometrics may be running a different algorithm than older passports, a hunch based on personal experience only.   I was asked for Checkmig for five visits over three years both entering and leaving Colombia until my recent trip a month ago, with a new US passport that looks very different than my previous.

At 05:45 a.m. today Check Mig was absolutely required in order board our flight to Medellin. The flight was on Spirit starting from Houston, to Fort Lauderdale, to Medellin. No printed documentation was presented only a screen shot of the completed form. In Medellin no request was made; but, as others have pointed out when my wife and daughter presented their cedulas the Check Mig form more than likely auto populated on the screen for the agent.

The Check Mig form was completed on I-phones. My wife did hers in Spanish and my daughter did hers in English. The app would not ever function and still won't...unless you open it in Google Chrome. It just displays the circling donut of death with the indication that it is "Cargando Datos". It still shows that two days later. When you enter your flight number it is best to click on the done tab rather than jumping to the next box. Also for the flight number you must make a space at the completion of entering the flight number or it won't find the flight. The only other snag was when indicating that you choose to use your cedula a pop up asks for the issuance date of your visa, they want the cedula issuance date.

Once we worked through those issues the second one was a breeze. YMMV.

We just flew in from Europe , and the Iberia lady only referred us to the website , didnt ask us to show anything, but the migraciones lady at El Dorado told my wife she had all the required info. on ChekcMig

So I would highly recommend to continue filling the forms out on he APP

@Lpdiver

How old are your passports?   And are they Colombian, USA or other?

My current theory is different algorithms depending on the age of passport, or , better put, the level of secred code biometrics and other high technology imbedded into the passport.

My previous passport had only one photo on the bio page, and all pages were paper.  My latest has two images of me inside it, new markings, one page in plastic and a bunch of other high-tech upgrades.

Both the US and Colombian passports are less than two years old.

We print out the paperwork and it’s accepted. I’ve also taken a screenshot and saved to photos.
