Digital Nomad Visa Migrante Web
I have always been advised that once your application has been accepted as complete, and just awaiting a decision, that you are in effect covered by that visa until you are refused. However I would also advise asking a simple question to remove any doubt...
You're using migranteweb correct? If an application has been accepted and under review you're fine. If you want to leave the country and return, you can use migranteweb to get a certificate for this purpose.
A week before the travel you enter: PORTAL DA IMIGRAÇÃO
MIGRANTEWEB
PETICIONAMENTO ELETRÔNICO
CERTIDÃO DE TRÂMITE
You'll ask for certidão de trâmite.
The document is valid for 30 days to reenter in Brasil while the process is not finished.
Yes this website:
It says "EM TRÂMITE" so not sure if that mean the application has been accepted or being processed and counts towards my visa protection while staying here.. Anyway as others have suggested I will go to the airport to ask the federal police whether my visa needs to be extended or not. I will go next week and report back what they told me.
Thanks everyone for the help.
Yes, please post what they say. I would assume they are going to tell you that while the application is in process, and if you're in country that you won't be charged a fine because you have done what you were suppose to do, get a renewal. The fine is for people who ignore the law and plead ignorance after the fact.
The form I mentioned will allow you to leave and enter the country while waiting for approval. I used it when my CRNM was pending. The PF was familiar with form and I had no problems using it with my expired CRNM. It only took me 24 hours to get a response and it's electronic. You just print it out. It's also free, no charge.
Thanks a lot!
So I have went there today and they told me, my country doesn't have the 90 days extension possibility. At best they can give me 40 days maybe. But he did say as long as I don't leave the country and my application doesn't get rejected I don't need to extend it and I can just wait.. So hopefully it won't get rejected, the status still haven't changed.
He also asked me to send all my documents to here: migracao.srsc@pf.gov.br
So after 2 months I finally received an update and it went from "EM TRÂMITE" to "EM EXIGÊNCIA" They also emailed me to provide 2 following documents:
- Certidões de antecedentes criminais ou documento equivalente emitido pela autoridade judicial competente de onde tenha residido nos últimos cinco anos.
- Guia de Recolhimento da União - GRU, simples, da taxa de processamento e avaliação de pedidos de autorização de residência com o respectivo comprovante de pagamento.
I really don't get this as I have already uploaded correct criminal record from my country with apostille and translated via official channels and also already paid GRU with proof of payment. Is there anywhere I can go to clarify this? There is really no contact, the email they sent me is a no-reply address.
Hi @Traveler 67 , You can find the contact information for Policia Federal on this page:
fale conosco: Imigrante.cgil@mj.gov.br
- Enviar dúvidas junto com o número do processo, nome do imigrante e RNM (se for o caso).
If you are sure everything is correct with the GRU and the other document, maybe writing them will be helpful so they can check if there was an administrative error or hopefully they could explain better what exactly is wrong.
I see above that they gave you another contact address before, maybe you could try that one too.
After around an hour, someone will call your name this time, they will give you back all your documents, including the Protocolo print out which will serve your ID until you get your residence card.    -@rocade
In a context of visa renewal, does anyone know if that document that they give you is valid for entering the country through the airport if the residence card is not issued yet? It's because I will be in such position of being out of Brazil with the process done, but will come back without the residence card.
@bennyllero
As I mentioned in another thread, if your application to renew a visa is accepted while you are legally in Brazil, then you will automatically (by law) be granted the status of the visa you are applying for. Therefore no problem to leave and return... if that is what the new visa would allow when granted.
@Peter Itamaraca Ah okay. So I guess they would update my passport with such info until I got my new residence card. Thanks!
@bennyllero
I do not think they would update your passport, but they should give you a protocolo to cover it, or ask them for a signed letter to that effect. It happened to my wife many years ago, and there was no problem.
Hey everyone
I have been in Brazil since feburary on a tourist visa that expires in may. I want to stay here until july and am therefore applying for a digital nomad residency.Â
I am in a bit of a hurry because i will travel to the amazon at the end of april and will only come back to Rio, where i am staying, at the start of june. I would like to get my recidency permit before i go.
I have applied for my CPF and is currently waiting for the Receita Federal to get back to me, so i can login to MigranteWeb and upload my documents. However i know that after submitting my documents i will need to register with the Policia Federal and there can be quite a bit of waiting to get a time slot.
Therefore i wanted to know how long you had to wait until being able to go to the Policia Federal after submitting your documents on the MigranteWeb? I really want to get it sorted before the 24th of april, but i haven't even gotten my CPF yet, so I don't know if i will make it. Otherwise i will have to go to the PF in june when im back in Rio, but i don't know if it is allowed to wait that long.
Thanks for the help in advance
Side question: am i missing some obvious documents here?
I have got:
- Passport
- Employment contract
- apostilled and translated birth certificate
- apostilled and translated criminal record from Denmark (home country)
- Bank transcript proving funds over 18.000 USD
- Health insurance document
- The Anexo I form that people linked to here in the thread (havent printed and filled it out yet)
Do I need a brazilian criminal record aswell? I know i need to pay some fees aswell, but i can't find them anywhere?
@asger
Here are the dates for my renewal application through MigranteWeb as a guide. It took approximately two months.
24/12/2024Â Â POLICIA FEDERAL
11/12/2024Â Â PUBLICADO
09/12/2024  AGUARDANDO PUBLICAÇÃO
06/12/2024Â Â DEFERIDO
06/12/2024Â Â PROPOSTA DE DEFERIMENTO
04/12/2024Â Â ENCAMINHADO A ANÃLISE
29/11/2024Â Â JUNTADA DE DOCUMENTO DIGITAL
12/11/2024  EXIGÊNCIA
12/11/2024Â Â ENCAMINHADO A ANÃLISE
30/10/2024Â Â DATA DE CASTRADO
Maybe you can get an extension on your tourist visa as an easier alternative
04/02/25 @californianinbrazil. Congrats -- it was quite an odyssey!
Are you sure that that last item isn't "date de cadastro" though, or something similar? If it's really "data de castrado", you should probably rethink the whole thing. Urgently. 😖
04/02/25 Do I need a brazilian criminal record aswell? I know i need to pay some fees aswell, but i can't find them anywhere? - @asger
If you've only been here on a tourist visa, you should not need a local criminal background check.
@californiainbrazil
Thank you! If my procces runs like yours, i will be back in rio before it is time to go to the PF. Even though my tourist visa expires in may, i assume i won't have any problems as i'm not planning to exit the country. From what I can see in this topic i'm still legaly in Brazil as long as i'm in the process of getting a visa?
I tried getting an extension on my tourist visa at first, but it was denied because Denmark dosn't let brazilians extend their tourist visas in Denmark.

Okay, thank you! One less thing to think about
Hey everybody
I have sent the documents that the Policia Federal werent satisfied with again and now my process in EM TRAMITE again. My tourist visa expired in may so right now i am without a visa.
Therefore i would like to know if anybody have had any experiences getting their previous visa extended while they were in the process of getting a new one?
I am going to be leaving Brazil in july and if everything goes as it should, I should have the visa by then, but if not, my process might still be EM TRAMITE as I leave. Have anybody had any experinces on leaving brazil with an overstayed visa? Have anybody tried getting exempt from a fine, because they were in the process of getting a visa?
I would really like to hear from anyone who has had similar experiencies.
Thanks in advance
@Peter Itamaraca
Before. I applied on the 23rd of April and my tourist visa expired on the 29th of may. I got the first response from the Policia Federal on the 16th of May, but i send the documents they requested in June.

As I have mentioned previously, if your application for a visa is accepted while you are legally in Brazil, then you will automatically (by law) be granted the status of the visa you are applying for, until it is granted or refused
However, in your case, it would appear to me that your application was only formally accepted after you submitted aditional docs in June AFTER your tourist visa expired in May. Therefore it is probable that you will be refused readmission to Brazil unless you obtain a new tourist visa. You may want to talk to an immigration attorney ASAP to verify this.
