You have one Customs exemption per month of $500 US.  The official summary and explanation of the rules appear here:



Most travelers with mostly personal items and one or two gifts simply go through the "Nothing to Declare" line, and revise their oral declaration in the unlikely event that their luggage is inspected.  The Receita Federal is more interested in catching people smuggling in quantity for resale.

That's a situation in which if you enter with more than one phone (especially in a box or without a sim card) you may be questioned. So declare it.
Never let it go undeclared because they can size it. \As to tax on elect. it is about 60% of the value

Thank you. I found the exemption you mentioned on the linked website, but even though it appears twice (A cota de isenção), I have not found the amount of this exemption. Do you know where I can look it up (it's not that I don't believe you, I just like to have the source)

Don't ask, don't tell, be sure it is out of the box and operational. I always travel with two phones, one as a back-up or disposable in case I am robbed. No one has ever cared. I usually have two laptops too when I travel, one for my work, and one for play. This way, I never have my good laptop with me while traveling or driving around.
