Retirement visa expiring: when can I come back on a tourist visa?

Kurterino

Hi,

my retirement visa will expire at the end of September, and I’ll be unable to renew it immediately, I will have to wait until June 2026 (for administrative/personal reasons). I would like to spend some of these 9 months (September-June) in Brazil on a tourist visa, I’m wondering when I will be able to come back at the earliest: As a tourist, I can spend up to 180 days per year in Brasil (2 times 3 months). Since i have been in Brasil more than 6 months this year (with my retirement visa), will I have to wait 6 months before I can come back? Or, since it’s a different visa, does the counter „reset“, and i could come back after a month (eg end of October)?

07/25/25 @Kurterino.  You should be fine:  time spent on your Retirement Visa should not affect time available on your Tourist Visa/Visa Waiver.  To avoid confusion, don't show your CRNM at Passport Control on arrival, just your Swiss passport in the Estrangeiros line.  If your name does pop up in the system and the agent asks, just telling the truth should get you in.

You're already up to speed on the 90 days in/90 days out rule that applies to you; complying with that should help avoid any complications in renewing your Retirement Visa or getting a new one when it fits your schedule.
