What makes you happy in your expat city in Brazil or elsewhere?

Ameerah Arjanee

Hello, I am a content writer for Expat Magazine, and we are planning on writing an article about what makes expats feel happy in the city where they live. We could love to get some testimonials from expats living in Brazilian cities (or Brazilian expats living in other cities around the world). It can be about anything: the weather, the friendliness of people, the cost of living, how easy to use public transport is, how walkable the city is, how interesting the arts and culture scene is, the quality of the fresh fruits and vegetables, how multicultural it is, how there are many libraries, etc.

Without a doubt, the diverse and welcoming circle of friends my Brazilian wife and I have made in our very modest small town which we call “The end of the Earth but the center of the Universe.”

@Ameerah Arjanee Thanks for Asking! I have been coming to Brazil for the last 50 years when my father married a Brazilian native from Niteroi. I now live in a very small village in Northeastern Brazil with my Brazilian mother of 98, my Brazilian wife and Simba a Beagle mix.

This has been the best time of my life.

When I am on the beach in Ilha de Itamaracá and I close my eyes, I feel like I am on the beach in Grand Baie.  The sounds, smells, and the movement of the people around me are the same.....  This brings me back to my childhood....

That's what makes me happy in Brazil.
