Would you leave your phone to be analyzed

NewBrazil

My IPhone seem to have a battery problem. I went to 2 shops and was told I have to leave my phone for a day to have it analyzed. It has all my information and accounts with credit cards. I am in Fortaleza and have to make this decision to get my phone serviced. What do you think about giving your phone up to a shop. Thank for any thoughts or experiences

Is your iphone locked with a (good) password? And did they mention how they want you to leave it with them: Like, ask you to unlock it first?

When your turn off an iPhone, your data is pretty safe, noone can access it. (Considering you have a strong password). You can leave it with them without worry.

But if they ask you to leave it with them unlocked, then all your data could be theirs now.

As an alternative, you can backup your phone to icloud/computer and then delete everything and hand it over. When you receive it, you load everything back from the backup.

Reminder:

As a first step, you can use the official Apple Support app from and they might be able to make a remote diagnostics analytics for your phone to tell you more about the problem

(*) Actually, you should do a backup either way before handing your phone. In case something goes wrong.

@NewBrazil I would call APPLE and follow their guide in this situation.

There is no way I would leave any device with someone without wiping it first.

The includes Apple stores.

Phones are not the simple communications tools they once were - they hold our lives on them.

Leaving your phone anywhere  means everything on it is vulnerable to being hacked.

NewBrazil

Thank for all your responses. I am looking at another store and the tips you gave me were great. Didn’t think about turning off my phone. That a good question.

Not sure if you are aware of the Pegasus spyware -> (spyware)

In order to avoid similar no-click spyware to be installed and start spreading from your phone to everything that you connect to, I would recommend:

a) a complete backup of your phone

b) do a factory reset - including removing the iphone from your apple account as this has a link to icloud

c) do your thing to fix the battery

d) after the battery issue has been fixed, do another factory reset

e) connect to itunes and make sure to do and phone os and security patches upgrades

f) after all this has been done, shutdown and restart

g) restore from backup and add back to icloud

This will ensure that you start up with a clean slate after getting your phone back.

No way Jose’. Backup, factory reset, then hand it yo them. NEVER give your phone with personal information to someone.

Biggest thing normally is difference in voltage between countries. Unless the iphone was bought and stamped by anatel you will notice the performance or behavior get a bit jarred over time.

Most likely your battery took too many volts/amps and is now not where it should be. It's normally a simple task of battery replacement. Ensure your stuff is backed up regardless because bypassing icloud lock is easier than most think. Rendering it a resellable phone lol.

Just see what others said about touching base with apple direct to avoid any unhappy accidents

@NewBrazil

So exactly what model of Iphone are you having issues with? It’s important to know because as Apple continues to update IOS it has a tendency to optimize their code to run faster and more efficiently with newer generation hardware. If using an older device, the processor has to use more energy than a newer processor to do the same task (it struggles to keep up). Thus, the battery usage increases with each IOS update. This has been going on since the beginnings of personal computers. The hardware folks make a better faster processor and life is wonderful. Then the software folks say hey, now I can use this extra processing power to write more complex code. Back to Iphones. In recent years they’ve been using the Bionic family of chips. The A16 is the latest. A15 and A14 are still adequate and A13 is good. However as I said previously, The latest processor will always have the most efficiency when it comes to battery life, because the IOS software is by design, made to work best with it.

It's preplanned greed.....oops.....technological advances.

@NewBrazil

That should tide you over. That phone uses the A11 chip. Pretty old. Good thing you’re getting an upgrade soon.

Cheers!
