Uruguaiana and Artiga

Drjmagic

Hi,

A small interest in geology and a big interest in learning more about Brazil has me thinking about going to Uruguaiana and then visiting Atiga in Uruguay.

I can't find much info about either place or the surrounding area in general.

Does anyone know the area and what there is to consider doing there?

I'd like to spend 4 or 5 days there  starting on a Friday evening (my girlfriend will only be able to spend a weekend)

Thanks in advance.

Don't know much about Uruguaiana, but Gaucho Frontier towns are interesting in subtle ways.  Language, customs, the fact they tend to be insulated communities.

Border town folks tend to cross lines often for shopping.

You might not find exciting touristy stuff to do there.  Mostlyl likely, the main attractions are ....

The Great Outdoors

A Churrasco

Downtown Main Plaza

The local yokels.

Because it borders Argentina and Uruguay, Gaucho culture is strong on these locales.  Don't be surprised if you spot dudes riding a horse in the city.

It is also a port city, so I assume you can spot a lot of interesting things along the river front.

Oddly enough, most of the City's Urban Planning took place in the XIX Century ( 1800's ). Lot of old style buildings , interesting architecture.

The City's infrastructure outsizes its population, and it is quite modern ( Airport, Rail, Roads, Universities, Hospitals ).

Thanks, sprealestatebroker.

Any suggestions on how to make the most of our time there and how to connect with the "gaucho culture"??

I'll post an update after I return.
