Lost Australian driving licence

guestposter15352

Hello All!

My niece has Australian drivers licence and now she is in Sweden and she however lost her licence. She made a police complaint but now she has no right to drive in Sweden since police never saw her licence. According to the Swedish law if you lose your licence you make a police complaint and until you get your new one your police complaint can be used as the licence.

She asked her contacts in Australia and according them she must come back to Aussie to get a new one which she can't do right away because of several personal reasons. My question is what can she do to get any kind of document that prove that she has an Aussie drivers licence? Or are there any other suggestions?

Thank you all in advance.

Is she on holiday in Sweden?

Yes Simon initially it was supposed to be a holiday but let me explain everything at one shot.

She was born in Sri Lanka and came to Sweden when she was like 12 years and went to Aussie when she was like 21-22 and lived there for 7-8 years until she came back to Sweden for a holiday this time but continued to stay here now for more than a year since she's got a teaching job here so she quit her Aussie job and probably going to stay here for a while but will go back again later. She still has her Swedish citizenship and also PR in Aussie.

She is very busy with her new job and some other stuff so it's hard for her to take the time to start the process to take drivers licence here, everything from the beginning again but since no one has replied yet it might be her only option.

The licence can be replaced / renewed whilst overseas. Have done this myself for many years. Google search 'replace Australian drivers licence while overseas'. There are downloadable forms for this.

Also contact the Australian Embassy for information / advice.

Its possible to get your licence digitised on an app, if you have the required details.  I know South Australia offers this, but not sure about other states.  It might be worth checking on.

Thank you all for your replies!

Now when we know that it is possible to take a new one without going back we check it out.

She is from Brisbane Queensland maybe the system is digitalized there too we check it out.
