Making friends in San Miguel

GinaKay59

Hi all, I'm planning on retiring in Mexico in 2026 and San Miguel is on my list of places. One high priority for me, I'm solo and looking for a place where I can be part of a community and build my social life from the ground up. I've heard that San Miguel is a great place for that. I was wondering if there are online resources that might give me an idea regarding different ways to connect. I'm an artist, musician, avid reader, traveler and becoming fluent in Spanish. Also on my list is CDMX, it's WAY different but I've spent some time there and enjoy the cultural offerings. I'm questioning though if I'd do better in a smaller city.

This is so interesting. I am planning to move to México. I thought about CDMX because at least I know ONE person there, but I rather San Miguel because it is safer. I believe it is easier to establish a community in a smaller town than the Capital of México.  It is huge city and anonymity is prevalent in big cities.

Hola. I have lived in SMA for 8 1/2 years and it's been the best thing I've ever done. Community on steroids. If you want to know more I have written a number of blogs about living in SMA. Just look up Expat Pathway Mexico and you can go to the Blog page. Also the Video Tips page has some good info as well. My email is kerry@expatmx.com is you have any questions.

Hi, Gina and welcome to Mexico! I will happily be your friend ! I am also a musician, traveler, avid reader, becoming fluent in Spanish, etc., plus a horse person [no bits, no spurs, only love....have 2 precious horses, but hubby's scared to ride, so I'd love to find a friend to ride with me. Both horses are gentle 3 year old fillies, one is an Imperial Friesian, the other a gaited palomino TWH.] and vegan. I also want to form or join a band.....I play lead guitar, consider myself a rocker but also play blues, blues rock, acoustic, classical, flamenco, along with rock and hard rock, all originals. I also play keyboard, and have all pro gear and recording equipment. Hubby plays drums. I taught yoga for 30 years and might do that again, just for fun and to meet new friends. We moved to the Puerto Vallarta  area 4 years ago, but it became too crowded and overdeveloped for us, so we bought a wonderful, happy house on acreage, 15 minutes from the center of SMA, and we're moving there in a couple of weeks ! Can't wait! We don't live there yet, but we have met many people and they've been wonderful. I think you can easily find the community you seek in SMA. Best wishes, Kathleen
