TIP for 5th Wheel RV trailer - different name for truck & trailer?

larry16

I'm planning to take an RV 5th wheel into Mexico, but I'm planning on going down with a friend and pulling the RV with his truck.

So, my friend would get a car permit for his truck in his name.

And I would get a RV permit for the 5th wheel in my name.

Does anybody know if that's legal? I know it's unusual, but I don't know if there's a specific rule about it.

Does anybody know the rules? Or have any experience with this?

Many thanks!

I would like to help but I really think its a question for the provider of your Mexican Insurance  that you both will require.

Once you get that challenge overcome, prepare yourself for the double cost at toll gates.

You pay according to the number of axles you're pulling; at least thats the way it was in 2014 when we hauled my three-horse angle haul from and to Edmonton A.B. to Merida Yukatan in 2014 /15. Good Luck. Try not to drive at night; the 'bandits' are mostly the truck transport drivers who know every hole in the road and give very little warning on their way through or around them.

@1lonecharro Thanks, yes I know not to drive at night. You're right, those potholes are terrible!
