Retiring to Turkey

andypenn63

Hi, in about 11 years we will be retired. We would have a pension of at least £1,350 or more. We would have about £120,000 for property. Could we retire with that for the rest of our life's.

11 years is a long way off to predict exchange and inflation rates. Also the political situation can impact COL.

At present 1350gbp equates to around 12,150 TL per month which I would estimate is enough to live on quite comfortably, assuming you own your home, a car  and have some savings for unforeseen expenses.

The COL in southern Turkey where I have had a home since 2008 is cheap compared to UK. Fresh vegetables and fruit are cheap in season when bought from the local markets.

But alot depends on your habits and purchases. Alcohol -spirts and luxuries are expensive and limited. luck.

Petrol and diesel are also expensive.

Current inflation is between 15-20% pa in real terms.

Hi, the only purchases really would be my wifes insulin she takes 4 times a Day.

according to the current conditions, yes definetely you can have a good property by this amount, not a big villa with large garden and a swimming pool located zero distance to the beach, but a competitive and satisfactory one. anyway, i dont recommend having one close to the beach, good investment for future but not for living, too crowded, not peaceful. there are a lot of villages around neighbourhood to settle in. and yes again, you can catch a relatively high life standard by this amount certainly, unless you eat out yr lunch/dinner every single day.
11 years is long time, i think there will not be any habitability opportunity in bodrum at that time for people on their 68 and 71. winter time is beautiful where summer season becomes unbearable sometimes. wish you good luck and hope to meet up upon yr next visit..

Hi, we need to be near chemist as my wife has insulin 4 times a day. We want to be near shops cafes ect. We don't want to be overlooked by neighbors or be in a gated area sharing pool ect. Tis is like what we would like or near as -
I would have 5 pensions plus government pension and about £12,000 savings we don't mind being about 3-8km  from sea and not a huge built up area. We have stayed in Akyarlar and love Bodrum.
Thanks Andrew Penniall

you can buy insulin for monthly need, you dont have to be near chemist, but you better have power plant to keep them as those kind of places hava blackouts very often. it seems to me that the place is nowhere but sticks. because mostly nobody prefers swimming pool in those areas where the sea is clean with beautful coasts, it is a trick to attract buyers. fethiye and seydikemer are different counties in the city of muÄŸla. you should learn which district in seydikemer. it may be far from seaside even one hunderd kilometers.

Oh yes definitely, you can live comfortably without doing too much excess.
