urgent help for extreme depression
Hi,
I feel on the verge of having a nervous breakdown, need urgent advice about a psychiatrist or anything else that might help. Also I am using a food supplement program based on the book "the way up" by priscila slagle USA, and since she is not taking any off shore clients , I need to see some doctor who works with nutritional supplements in riyadh in order to tweak the program to suit my current situation.
I would recommend to you stop taking whatever supplements you are...take a break... and take it easy....first and foremost.
Totally agreed with Live.ali ,because i dont much about your supplements but if you dont take break from them .You will definitely ''Go Way Up".Literally ,and since you feel like you have a nervous breakdown ,i would recommend you to consult a toxicologist because what ever supplement you have taken ,in my knowledge is showing side effects ,or reverse feedback.
Guys are you sure with your stop supplement advice or is it just a gut feel.... ? Are you sure it would work and not make him worse... ?
Fighting depression ....great step to seek out help on open forum..first and foremost go to a good hospital and checkout and take only professional medical advice. Around Olaya area you have Sulaiman Habib hospital , Saudi German , Saudi British hospital, any cab guy shd be able to take you....hospital folks can definitely help you....
1. I totally agree with live.ali, You should stop something has got you here.
2. Ablution is also a therapy, spend most of your time with it.
3. If you are alone, spend time with friends, outdoors.
4. Share!
5. Help others.
Good luck.
Why in the world aren't you checking into the Emergency Ward of the best hospital you can find? If you're intelligent enough to recognize that you're dealing with profound depression then you should also be intelligent enough to know that you need medical intervention.
As an educator with a career spanning over 26 years I have counselled many people with depression, and have had my own bouts with it too. I find it amazing that there is still so much misinformation out there about depression and that many people still think that it is some kind of mental or emotional problem that should be stigmatized, when in fact it is a medical condition just like any other and one that is treatable with an extremely high success rate.
It is equally amazing how many people try and self-diagnose and self-treat their depression, this is something that should never be done. No matter what you may personally think about depression, no matter what your aversion to conventional medical treatment for depression may be, get yourself to a medical doctor without delay. Too many people end up in serious troubles and many even lose their lives because they will try almost anything, no matter how absurd it may be or may sound rather than seek professional help, which is something that you are in desparate need of right now.
Run... don't walk to the nearest hospital and get checked out!

My concern right now is this...
Have you ever actually consulted a Medical Doctor about your depression, or have you self-diagnosed your condition and are treating yourself based on the book by Dr. Priscilla A. Slagel?
Some very importants fact that you should be aware of are as follows:
Dr. Slagel and several others, including Julia Ross and Patrick Holford who espouse the the use of amino acids and targeted vitamins/minerals to treat depression; and others who are proponents of other forms of alternative medicine are not always taken seriously by their mainstream medicine peers and regulatory agencies such as the American Psychiatric Association.
Also there are many in the mainstream who have come out strongly expressing the opinion that since all of the above individuals have a vested interest in selling books, which now makes up the major part of their incomes their work, so-called research and studies, are biased and can in fact be harmful. I'd certainly be more concerned about getting a second opinion, having "fresh eyes" look at your problem and see if you can come up with a "fresh solution" to it.
If the dietary suppliments that you're currently taking aren't functioning then you should be thinking more in terms of seeking out other opinions from Medical Doctors rather than just trying to play around with something that isn't working and wasting your time trying to make it work. Your health and wellbeing are far too important for that.

WJ,
Thanks for your very detailed answers stated above. There was an old saying " Ignorance is a Blessing" was probably correct when we consulted "experts" and "professionals" for any thing other than our own field of expertise.
Unfortunately, this is an example and an eye opener for other readers as to how far DIY, self medication and self diagnosis can go.
I honestly pray that our dear friend is in good hands now!
Well, since @fightingdepression appears to be just a "one post wonder" and hasn't returned or even indicated that he's received the advice given I guess we'll never know how this turns out.
Makes you wonder sometimes doesn't it, when someone seems so desparate to get help and then never even says THANKS when they get it?
Cheers,

isn't it obvious that the person is depressed? that you expect him/her to indulge you in a discussion? eating is a disorder often times observed in depressed individuals, they be it diet or supplements, they're depressed. i bet the guy went to the nearest clinic together with immediate persons around him/her but not anyone from this forum.
One can only hope so, but even depression does not mean that one should be immune from what is common courtesy. I've dealt with literally hundreds of depressed people, they certainly didn't simply ignore advice or fail to at least show in some way their thanks for it. Nobody expects a long dialogue from the man, but certainly a simple.... "got your messages, thanks" wouldn't kill him.
Good to hear that news! Did you take our advice and see a doctor?
Cheers,

Oh yes you should already stop taking this supplement. If you feel like something than it must be side effect of the supplement you take.
walk..go to the gym....exercise..do some badminton/tennis..talk to a friend..the more you stuck in your room the more you will be depressed...and what kind of depression you have?there are people outhere..nothing to eat..no family..no job..find ways to enjoy life...if you cannot enjoy your life..then be a blessings to others,,share what you have..only then you will find that there are more people who faced bigger problems than you have, yet they continue to live.. donate your one month salary..or one year salary..only then you will wake up!or call me...*(00)*
Having just emerged from a psychiatric hospital in Kuala Lumpur, I feel fairly well qualified to say a few things about this topic. There is only one medication you need right now and that is a short term prescription for diazepam. Don't take anything else the pill peddling quack might palm off onto you. I mean it...... the other medications the psychiatrist may prescribe can really make you ill. Make it so that you completely lose touch with reality and cannot function normally. However, I think diazepam is banned in Saudi. If this is indeed the case, then your only option is to throw your book in the bin, take extended medical leave from your job and then get the first flight home. Again, only accept a short term prescription of diazepam from the doc. Spend time with your friends and family, the diazepam will give you the window you need in order to put things into perspective and help you sleep. Lastly, think seriously about changing your profession and whether working abroad is right for you. I hope this helps.
