mazharx

Hi Naveed,
Nice to know that you have options to select from. No one can advise you to choose one from the options you narrated on this blog. You need a mechanic for that.

Regarding number plates: in Saudi there is a rule that only bike with certain cc and above need a number plate and license to ride. You need to check this with the traffic department. To transfer a bike with a license plate on to your name you need an iqama and a license; the process is same as for a car. Also without a number plate, registration card, and license plus insurance, you cannot ride outside the country and also they might not allow you to pass the various check posts in and around Riyadh.

Regarding license, it's a tidious process but the traffic department is helpful. It starts with the same process as of the car license but you need to go to the CID office and get a criminal record status and your finger prints on their records. Once they give you a certificate stating " no criminal record " you again have to come back to the license department, go for a test and if you pass which you will easily, you will get the license on the same day, fees and other things have to done the same way as for the car license, fees is lesser than the car license.

All the best.

lionheartnaveed

ok fine, so before i give away the money to the owner, first thing what should i do tell me and without the bike i cannt give the test and take the license and cn u tell me how much expensive is to transfer the paper and insurance ?

mazharx

First thing: i hope you have verified the bike by a good mechanic.

1. You don't need a bike to get a license, they will give you their bike for test ride. ( remember you cannot own a bike if you don't have a license, that's why when the police asks for the bike registration and you have it, it is understood that you have a license too. )

2. Transfer charges: pls check with a bike dealer. It's better if you ask them to do it. You will not need to run around.

3. Insurance: this depends on how much you valuate your bike. Mine x-showroom was 103k but I values mine at 100k so I had to pay 3500/- SAR for composite insurance. Now you can calculate the rest. 3rd party insurances are cheap.

hi Shaikh Faezaan > you could start a new topic on the Saudi Arabia forum.

I have already replied to Faezaan offline as he wanted to know.
To help others if news be:-

About license. The first criteria is a particular engine capacity: CC. If its above that only then you need a license. Now if you plan to have a super racer or a cruiser or touring bike, then yes, you need a license.

The license procedure is exactly the same as for the car. Except, that you don't have to go for a computer test. Just a bike ride in front of the traffic police.

But, here is the difference: for a bike license, you need a criminal record check from the CID office. This is exactly the same for a truck or trailer driving license.

Once you start the process by buying the green file, get the relevant stamps and signature from the first bike ride test, you have to go to the CID office and give your finger prints. After a week they will give you the form you had submitted with a stamp saying "no criminal record found". Then you go back to the driving license center and give another bike ride test for which you have to take an appointment.

Fees is exactly half of the car fees. Now: here is a news circulating. If you wish to ride a bike you have to pay a certain fees to the "bikers association". This is a govt organization. Now I don't know much and I am not 100% sure what this is. So, check the news paper for more info.

All the best. Believe me, the process is very easy and simply people make a fuss out of it. Just relax. You will have the license in two weeks.

Mazhar

Mohsin82

Dear Ismail, Its better if you bring your protective gear from Turkey because helmets, jackets & gloves are way far expensive as compared to prices on Amazon. Icon helmets cost around 1200 to 1600 Saudi riyals. AGV helmets cost around 1200 to 3200 Saudi riyals. Icon jackets will cost around 1400 to 1800 Saudi Riyals.

Hi
I hope this is not a late reply.
Here is a good website that sells all kind of different motorcycle accessories including helmets shoes gloves and jackets. I bought from them and they were really great to deal with. I got my shoei helmet 2 weeks after I placed the order and shipping was free.
here they are : arabiaspeed.com

I hope that helps

Hey guys,

I own a Suzuki GSXR600 2012 in Riyadh. The process is pretty staright forward to get a bike, you need to get a license for it but it takes a while. They have a process for criminal record check for all the people getting a bike or a heavy vehicle license, so when you go for that in the batha area, ti will take you almost 5-6 hours to get it done unless you know someone in the police.

Once you get that done, you pay the deposit on the bike and one of the dealership guys will go with you get the Plate and insurance done which will take about 3-4 days for the plate registration.

Once that's done, you are all good to go. If anyone of you are into riding, please drop me a message so we can get in touch.

It's a really dangerous place to be riding bikes and I would advise new riders to stay off the roads in KSA.

Ride safe! :)
