Moving to Jeddah

Deep303

Hi

I am moving to Jeddah at the end of this month and wanted guidance on the following
- Immigration process at the airport (Both Origin and       Destination)
- Do's and Dont's while travel and immigration
- Things I need to carry
- Any other instructions

I would be grateful for any guidance on this

Thanks

Hi and welcome to the forum Deep303!

You will probably find answers in the Saudi Arabia guide and on the Jeddah forum where these have been discussed many times.

Good luck

Airline will check for the visa in your passport at your origin, probably twice, at check in and gate. At Immigration in KSA go to either the line for Saudi residents or GCC citizens - DON'T go to the lines marked UMMRA.

If female and you have an abeya you can carry that with you to put on before you leave the aircraft - if you don't have one don't worry the people collecting you won't be expecting you to have one for your first entry and will have allowed for this. You should however try to dress in loose long sleeved shirt and long trousers. Men should also dress conservatively in long pants and a shirt (shorts below knees OK but no shorter and no singlet type shirts)

As you come thru immigration there are porters on the other side who will collect your luggage for you, put it thru scanners etc if you can get some riyals before coming then I would use them. It should cost about SR20-30 from there to the car/bus you are travelling in, they do all the heavy lifting etc.

Other than passport/visa/contact details for sponsor etc there is no need to bring anything else specifically - only what you would normally travel with.

Don't pack anything that has, or appears to have alcohol in it or any opiate based meds like codeine.

There may be some seat shuffling when you board the plane so that single females who are not comfortable with being seated next to males not related can be accommodated.

Beware of the bathrooms on the plane - they may be very wet with lots of water splashed all over the place from where people have washed for prayer. Prayers may be said by people on board as you come into Jeddah (about last 1/2-3/4 hr of flight) - have good noise reducing earphones!

Happy travels!
