Are traffic rules strictly respected or enforced in Qatar?

Are there any unspoken rules, unexpected habits or regulations that you had to adapt to?

Are the roads safe and well-maintained?

Are there specific times of day, weather conditions, or seasons that make driving more dangerous?

If you have children, do you feel comfortable letting them travel alone on local roads, whether on foot, by bike, or motorbike?

Before the 2022 World Cup, it was a bit hard to walk and cross the roads in Qatar. Now, we have lots of better footpaths, signalised crossings, and heaps of pedestrian underpasses and overpasses for easy access to key locations.

Pedestrian priority is still an issue, as cars have high priority. To improve road safety, they have introduced high fines for vehicles that run red lights. Traffic speed cameras are hidden, and there are no warning signs. So, if you speed, you can expect high fines.

You can expect unexpected dust storms, and it can be a bit hard to drive in those conditions.

During a couple of hours of rain, the roads will flood. Don鈥檛 take risk to drive on flooded waters, especially if you have a hatchback or sedan cars.聽聽

Sending kids out on their own along the streets are still not that safe. But certain locations like in The Pearl Qatar may be alright , but only on those low speed environment.
