Buying Anti depression medicine

Nalin Senarath

hi everyone
one of my friends taking medicine for 8 years for anxiety and OCD situation from his mother country. Once he came to Bahrain he brought medicine to enough 6 months with the relevant approval. unfortunately, all the medicine over and he needs to take the same medicine ASAP.
1.is it possible to show his country doctor's prescription and purchase it temporarily till his medicine arrives?
2. or otherwise is it possible to show his medical history to a local general doctor and take a local prescription?
please advise...because now he didn't take it for 5 days and now he is suffering....

Depends on which medicine it is.

In most cases, if it is not controlled, then he can get it on his country prescription.  If it is controlled, then he needs to show local doctor prescription.  For example, some psychiatric medicines like aripiprazole, quetiapine etc., can be bought over the counter but some others e.g. lorazepam, require a prescription and are only available in Government hospitals like BDF or Salmaniya.

I don't know where you read about the confiscation.  Keep the prescription and doctor's note when you bring it in and it should be fine.
