Do you really mean an NIE, that's just a fiscal number which affords no right to live in Spain, or a TIE, which is the permission to reside in Spain ?

I believe I will need both TIE and NIE, but my job have specifically said I need to obtain the NIE first. I will need it for tax purposes for my job.

For an NIE you require a valid passport (any nationality) an EX 15 application form, a payment form certified as paid into a bank.

@Johncar has explained how to get a NIE by making an appointment in the online system.

This isn't difficult, but it means that you need to be physically in Spain to go to the police station. I think this is the easiest (and cheapest) way, and you simply go out a bit earlier to get it sorted.

If you're there, and you're nervous about Spanish bureaucracy (I know I am!), then you can usually get someone (such as a "gestor") to help you. Many services advertise online too, so you can use one to get your NIE too.

However, I believe (I didn't do this myself) that to do it remotely (while still in the UK), requires that you provide a POA (power of attorney). So now you have the cost of the NIE agent (say 200-300 euros), plus you'll need to go to your local UK notary to certify your POA and your passport (maybe 拢150 or so), and then you'll get these notarized documents "legalized" in London (another 拢150 or so), and then courier the docs over (another 拢50 or so).

As to your more general questions, I think it might be wise to discuss with your Tenerife employer how/when they are getting your work permit.

Because you are absolutely correct that Brits moving now are not covered by the withdrawal agreement, and are no longer EU citizens. So you have to follow the process applied to all non-EU citizens, which typically requires a work permit to take up employment.

If you search online, there are many sites with info about getting residence in Spain. The official government site is packed with info about every residence issue. It's in Spanish (if your Spanish isn't perfect, you can use a browser with automatic language translation).

Yes, my main issue is with getting the NIE whilst still being in the UK. It sounds like the POA route is a bit expensive but may be my only option due to travel restrictions etc. If anyone can recommend an agency to do so that would be great.
