NIE / Padron

I am working in Madrid for 5 months until December and am an EU citizen. As I am trying to get my NIE so that my work can register me with social security, I need to go to a CUE appointment. When I went to padre piquer for this I was turned away for not having my padron certificate. However, for the padron it is a requirement to have 6 months on a rental contract minimum, so I can't do this. Am so confused on how to get my NIE when staying in Madrid for over 3 months but under 6 months! Need this sorted asap as my work are keen to register me, if anyone has been in a similar situation or has advice please!

You just do your EU Citizen Registration. They need an address but they don't ask for the Padron certificate. You get a little paper certificate which includes your new NIE.


This certificate is sometimes called the Green NIE. Here's more info and a picture:
